Sovereign is a social business and one of the largest housing associations in the country. We provide over 55,000 homes for around 130,000 people in housing need across the south and south west of England and the Isle of Wight. We're also a major developer of affordable housing, building around 1,500 new homes each year to rent or buy. Sovereign was formed in November 2016, as the result of a merger between Spectrum Housing Group and Sovereign.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave and is based in our Christchurch office with a focus on Dorset, the west of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

ROLE (OVERVIEW)

You will play a crucial role in helping us to achieve our targets in securing and delivering our ambitious development programme, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with Sovereign's financial regulations, policies, strategies, good professional practice and compliance with the required standards. You will be required to identify, generate and secure new business opportunities demonstrating a clear business case for each.

RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY DUTIES

- Identify new development opportunities and carry out feasibility studies, prepare and present reports recommending action upon such proposals
- Manage the acquisition of sites including the negotiation and agreement of terms with owners / Developers / Housebuilders and liaison with solicitors
- Manage projects through the design and planning stages working as necessary with stakeholders and framework consultants
- In the case of projects requiring capital or revenue subsidy from the HCA or local authorities, to ensure that all relevant performance standards and requirements are met

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

Alongside capabilities in IT, communication, prioritisation and team working, applicants should be able to demonstrate:

- Strong experience of securing and delivering developments on construction sites
- An ability to interrogate construction programming and cash-flow forecasting
- An ability to manage a variety of sizes and types of projects to end of defects
- Experience of delivering homes for sale and rent, ideally including those for housing associations
- Ability to manage project teams and suppliers
- Experience of Proval/Landval or other development appraisal tool and managing budgets, maintaining, monitoring and reporting cash flows and development accounting.
- A professional housing or construction related qualification is preferred

Due to a requirement to travel within this role, a current driving licence and your own transport will be essential.
