Contract Type: Permanent / Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

You have a strong track record in a commercially focussed role preferably from within retail business. You are a first class project manager and strong organiser of yourself and other teams. You are self-starter not afraid to challenge the status quo, but can work pragmatically with cross functional teams. You have a good balance of commercial and analytical acumen, and operational attention to detail which ensures first class delivery.

Job Purpose

To manage all aspects of the coordination and implementation of promotions. Working with the Buying, Merchandising, Marketing and Operations teams to develop, coordinate, implement and review promotions in an efficient and timely manner to support the business strategic objectives and to maximise the delivery of category financial KPIs.

Main duties and responsibilities

  1. Planning

Plan and manage the main promotional calendar working with the Buying team to deliver customer focussed, market leading promotions.

Develop and manage the critical path to deliver the promotional calendar taking into account all necessary processes and department lead times.

Work with relevant department heads (Buying, Finance, Marketing) to ensure all promotions briefs are signed off and briefed in to the teams in line with the critical path.

Work with the Buying team to validate the promotional stock and sales forecasts ensuring profitability and performance assumptions are achievable.

Work with Buying and Marketing to ensure SOA and additional supplier funding opportunities associated with promotions are maximised.

Provide financial summaries of planned promotional activity to relevant department heads, so there is full visibility of the forecasted financial performance.

Support the Buying team to ensure all promotions deliver the strategic direction set by the business.

Liaise with Merchandising and Stock Control to ensure the correct allocation of promotional products and space in store.

  1. Marketing & Merchandising

Work with Buyers and the Marketing team in the co-ordination of all promotional support activity such as POS and leaflets through to sign off.

Liaise with Merchandising and Buyers in the development of promotional merchandising planograms

Liaise with the Marketing regarding POS required to support promotional campaign in store, ensuring that POS is produced on time, accurately and to brief

Work with Marketing, Merchandising and Communications teams to develop and produce promotional packs that allow effective and efficient implementation in-store.

  1. Implementation

Plan and manage day-to-day promotional campaign processes, co-ordinating communications to all stakeholders and ensuring promotions are delivered efficiently to plan.

Work with the Buyers to ensure promotional nominations are submitted on time and to brief.

Periodic store visits with Sales & Operations Managers (SOMs) to assess and review promotional communication, activity and implementation.

Work with Communication Team to provide all necessary information to ensure the stores can be fully briefed in a timely manner.

Work with E-Commerce team to ensure promotions accurately and effectively promoted online.

  1. Financial Performance

Work with buyers regarding actions for underperforming promotional lines, including exit and sell through plans to minimise excess promotional stock.

Support the Buying team as required to deliver Financial KPIs.

  1. Analysis

Weekly and post promotional analysis to include margin achieved, performance to target, incremental growth and sell through/residual stock levels for bought-in and range promotions

Weekly and post campaign analysis of leaflet and banner performance at company and store level.

Ensure learnings are captured to improve future promotional decision making.

  1. Customer and Market

Work with Marketing to ensure competitive activity is captured and communicated in a timely manner to the buying team and the appropriate action is taken to ensure that the Ryman offer remains competitive in the market.

Specific Skills and Experience

  • Highly analytical and numerate with excellent attention to detail

  • Strong planning and time management skills with the ability to prioritise, juggle several work streams at once and work to tight deadlines in a fast paced environment

  • Confident communicator with excellent relationship management skills and the ability to mediate and deliver collaborative working practices across multiple departments

  • Strong commercial acumen

  • Leadership experience or evidence of strong influencing skills at a senior level

  • Excellent IT skills, highly proficient in Word and Excel, including

    • fully proficient in formulas e.g. vlookups

    • ability to use conditional formatting

  • Strong understanding and proven track record in multi-channel convenience/High Street retailing

  • Able to quickly grasp a commercial understanding of the Ryman customer and product range.

  • Experienced in devising and delivering strategic and tactical promotional plans
