Job Description
Barnardo's Works is looking for Project Workers/Employability Workers to join our team in delivering a wide range of programmes for young people. The service will be delivering programmes that support young people who have a range of barriers to work. Over the next year we will deliver employability programmes for care leavers, young people in temporary accommodation, those with limited or no work experience, young people from regeneration areas, and young people with disabilities.

For the last seven years the service has been delivering employability provision in rural Aberdeenshire and has been delivering employability provision in Aberdeen over the last five years.

During this period the service has gained a wide range of experience in delivering a range of employability courses for young people age 16-24 years old.

The Tayside and North East Service now delivers Employability programmes across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Dundee, and Perth and Kinross.

Barnardo's Works is a partnership delivered by Barnardo's Scotland and a variety of associated employers. It provides young people aged 18-24 with a unique blend of personal support and accredited training, matched with quality work experience and the opportunity for sustainable, independent employment. Barnardo's Works effectively addresses issues at the root of social exclusion and assists young people to overcome barriers such as homelessness and the impact of poverty. It gets the best deal for young people because it brings together partner agencies from all sectors Initial Specific Responsibilities Personal support for each young person is a vital ingredient of Barnardo's Works. Project workers assist young workers to overcome a range of barriers to ensure their full participation. The post holder will have a specific focus on the young people entering and completing the Barnardo's Works programme.

Key duties are:
  • To assist young people to access the Barnardo's Works programme.
  • To provide practical and emotional support to young people participating in the programme, and assisting them to overcome barriers to employment or further progression.
  • Deliver a range of SQA accredited qualifications to individuals and small groups of young people.
  • To provide each young person with a monthly support appraisal, ensuring that they have the opportunity to reflect on their progress and highlight any issues or concerns.
  • To ensure that monthly support appraisals are of such quality that they provide evidence of young people's progress.
  • To assist and support young people to participate, help shape and evaluate the service.
  • To work in partnership with employers to maximise long term employment opportunities for young people.
  • Ensure all paperwork is accurately completed in line with the requirements of Barnardo's and funders.
  • To work alongside young people completing the Barnardo's Works programme to ensure that employment is sustained long-term.
  • Applicants must have a good knowledge of the delivery of a range of employability programmes. Ideally applicants should also have experience of delivering and assessing SQA qualifications.
