Location: Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Salary: £35,000-£40,000 + Benefits and Bonus

The Network Engineer is a critical role within the operations world with a primary objective of ensuring the ongoing operational capability and continuous service experience of the telecoms network and associated services. The primary purpose of the role is the full responsibility for telecoms operational issues including event and incident management, with responsibility to resolve live incidents directly and/or with 3rd-party partners across the WAN/LAN platforms.

In addition, the role is responsible for developing and operating problem management capability to drive continuous service improvement across the telecoms assets. The role will also be responsible for day-2-day change management implementation, and the service delivery of new/existing circuits. The role will act as the primary operational technical authority on the core telecoms network asset and services ensuring alignment to the business strategies of the operating companies, whilst also providing technical input and consultancy around telecoms technology, infrastructure and applications where required.

In addition, the role will assist on developing and embedding a strong operational capability, with a key focus on establishing and developing a next-generation operational capability focussing on continuous service improvement. The role will also act as the principal lead on all network operations under escalation, developing and maturing the problem management process eliminating reoccurring issues across the telecom network estate, and improving knowledge management.


Person Specification:

*Expert knowledge around telecoms break-fix and operational support including WAN, LAN and WiFi networks with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues across a complex multi-tenant domain.
*Expert knowledge around Cisco IOS and networking devices (Cisco 2950, 2960, 3750x, 3850x) including experience working on WAN networks and with BGP/OSPF routing protocols.
*Intermediate knowledge around HP OS and networking devices (ProCurve) including experience working on LAN HP networks.
*Intermediate knowledge around network security devices including Firewalls (Cisco 5500's), Load-Balancers, IPS and DDOS platforms.
*Working knowledge of Datacentre and comms rooms infrastructure including structured cabling and network patching.
*Experience in operational troubleshooting and event/incident management within a traditional IT infrastructure or end-user role.
*Intermediate knowledge around the configuration and usage of Network Monitoring Platforms (SolarWinds/PRTG) for the monitoring and troubleshooting of network assets or services.
*A strong working skillset around telecoms fundamentals including TCP/IP, DHCP & DNS and proficiency with network hardware and technologies.
