Our Client, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council are looking for a temporary Finance Assistant to join their team.

This is a temporary role for 8 weeks although there may be an opportunity for extension.

The role may involve;

- Providing a comprehensive and efficient financial service across the area of work, which meets the needs of the Council, regulatory authorities and statutory agencies.

- Undertaking the efficient operation of either the Council’s Accounts Payable and / or Receivable functions (as required by the Finance Supervisor).

- Initiating electronic and manual payments up to the stage of having them for authorisation by the Supervisor.

- Providing accurate, timely and relevant financial reports as required.

- Data input to, retrieval from a range of Management Information Systems, as required, for example Sun, Vision, Kontrolla etc.

- Assisting the Financial Supervisor in the provision of advice, with external assistance if required on various financial matters,

- Responsible for updating and reviewing suppliers, customers and client details for internal and external stakeholders.

- Raising nominal ledger journals as required.

- Maintaining systems and records to ensure the efficient fulfilment of the function and provision of appropriate audit trails.

- Other duties as required.

The successful candidate must;

- Have a grade C in a minimum of 4 GCSE's or above, or the equivalent qualifications OR 2 years' experience within a similar financial role

- Competent using a range of Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word and Excel

- At least 6 months' working experience with Management Information Systems

- Have strong communication skills

- Have the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines
