IT Systems Administration Manager – based in the City of London

As the IT Systems Administration Manager for this multiple award winning financial services software provider, you will be responsible for managing a team of System Administrators, whose responsibility is to provide configuration, management and support of the local and wide area network, server, storage and telecommunications infrastructure to the business. The environment is both Linux and Windows and it is essential to have experience being hands-on in both.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Assisting the Head of IT in maintaining the operations of the company's server systems, networking infrastructure, and communications.
• Leading, coaching and mentoring the system administration/network team.
• Holding individual monthly 1:1’s & annual appraisals and weekly team meetings.
• Designing, installing, upgrading, operation, control and maintenance of Windows and Linux server systems, network, voice and desktop infrastructures.

Other Duties and Responsibilities (not exhaustive):
• Ensuring the availability of all relevant systems, through the implementation and management of maintenance, monitoring and change control strategies.
• Creating specifications, ordering equipment, software and services.
• Maintaining up to date and effective documentation on all relevant IT systems, services and procedures.
• Managing user accounts and access levels.
• Assisting in the development and control of the IT security policy and associated policies.
• Ensuring adherence to FCA, TCF and Data Protection/GDPR regulations in relation to IT systems, adhering to Best Practice.
• Taking a Cyber security first approach.
• Providing training, coaching and mentoring to other administrators and 1st/2nd line support staff.
• Managing projects to implement business systems solutions and or processes for information management.
• Overseeing the uninterrupted monitoring of the IT infrastructure.
• Assisting the developers and business analysts with the design and implementation of new systems.
• Providing where necessary out of hours support of the IT systems.
• Assisting in the planning, development, documentation and testing of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plan, processes and procedures.

Knowledge Requirements:
• Previous Management of a System Administration or equivalent team.
• Detailed working knowledge of Microsoft and Linux server environments.
• Detailed working knowledge of server builds configuration and remote management.
• Detailed working knowledge of local and wide area networking and associated technologies, e.g. switches, routers, firewalls, VPN’s, etc.
• Good understanding of storage environments and configuration, DAS, NAS, SAN.
• Good understanding of Virtualisation technologies, with hands on experience of RHEV, Hyper-V or VMWare.
• Comfortable with scripting languages, e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.
• Knowledge of configuration management and orchestration tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Chef, SaltStack.
• Good understanding of general security principles.
• Good working knowledge of ITIL best practices.

• Knowledge of telephony systems and technologies (e.g. SIP trunks, Mitel PBX).
• Knowledge of group policy design and administration.
• Active Directory administration.
• TCP/IP networking.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms and services, AWS, VMware Cloud, OpenShift, OpenStack, Azure, Office 365, etc.
• Knowledge of virtual desktop infrastructure RDS, Citrix, VMware Horizons, Parallels, etc.
• Switch configuration and management.
• Remote access and VPN technologies.
• Intrusion detection & prevention solutions.

Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of 3 years proven track record of managing and leading teams.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Systems Administrator or equivalent.

• Previous experience in the support and development of networks and security infrastructures.
• Project Management qualification (PRINCE 2, Agile, Waterfall).
