Training Programme Manager and Intervention Specialist
Oxford, Oxfordshire, UK
Salary: £24,000
Hours: Full-Time

Do you have a passion for improving the lives of vulnerable young people? Our client is a psychology behaviour support charity that reengages children and young people with their learning. They have an exciting opportunity to set up and run a Training Programme to skill up trainees to work within our dynamic and inspiring team.

The Role
Initially, the role will involve setting up the programme, advertising positions, and screening the candidates. Once the programme is established, you will be the direct line manager for these trainees and will be a supervisor for students on placement with us (e.g., social work and occupational therapy students). Alongside this, you will also hold a caseload of young people and families where you will take a lead role in the design and delivery of both short and long-term interventions.

You will receive training in supervision and the psychological aspects of the role, and will receive regular supervision on a monthly basis. You will have experience of working with highly challenging young people, and have confidence and passion to deliver interventions to make a difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable young people in Oxfordshire.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish structure of Traineeship Programme
  • Recruit Trainees to the Programme by advertising, networking, and building strong links with universities
  • Offer supervision and day-to-day management to trainees and placement students
  • Identify training needs and provide coaching
  • Design and deliver 1:1 interventions for children, young people and families

You will be working as part of a larger team, but will also frequently be on your own conducting assessments and interventions. It is crucial that you able to communicate clearly to both young people; their parents/foster carers and wide range of professionals. You will be required to work within the young person's home, their community, and at the young person's school. Some of the families you will be supporting will have complex living situations, and may be open to social services. You will need to feel confident in being a key point of stability in the lives of these families.

As a member of the charity, you will be asked to support the production and organisation of various fundraising events and conferences; contribute to publications of One-Eighty such as our Annual Report and understand the ethos and culture of working within a charity.

The role is as demanding as it is rewarding and exciting. No day will be the same, and no young person we work with leaves unchanged.

The Candidate:
To be considered for the Training Programme Manager and Intervention Specialist position you will have the following qualification, experience and attributes:

  • Degree in a relevant subject e.g., psychology or similar (social work, sociology, education, youth work, nursing)
  • Leadership Skills including experience of leading others in the workplace
  • Recent experience working in emotionally charged environments with aggressive young people
  • An ability to effectively engage and connect with teachers, students, and families to ensure positive outcomes
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to evidence an understanding of the need to safeguard children and young people including adhering to policies and procedures
  • Experience of effective teamwork and ability to demonstrate the importance of this
  • Competent use of MS Office Suite and strong recording skills
  • A Full UK driving licence and access to a car, able to acquire business insurance to allow you to transport young people
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the demands of the role (e.g., occasional evenings and weekends to run a stand at an event.)
