Systems Administrator: Linux & DevOps

You are an experienced Linux Systems Administrator used to working in a DevOps environment. You want to work in a company that is growing and making substantial investments in its future, investing in its technology and confident in its mission. You can write scripts, you are or are becoming familiar with containerization. You want to work in a demanding large operational environment with geographically distributed infrastructure.

The enterprise a leading provider of satellite broadband products and solutions and has seen rapid growth in its carrier services opportunities with large scale deployments of 4G backhaul over satellite as well as 3G and GSM deployments.

This company finds itself in the enviable position of having got to market first with well-engineered solutions their markets want. This has led to their growth and the need for a Linux Systems Administrator DevOps. The growth in new geographical markets means the 5-person Systems Administration team has to grow as well.

  • Manage an international, multi-site production infrastructure.
  • Manage and administer physical and a virtual computing estate, mainly of Linux servers.
  • Manage, troubleshoot and refine the backup solution.
  • Support the Development Team with automation.
  • Formalise designs and configurations for system and storage administration.
  • Research and champion DevOps best practice
  • Participate in technology roadmap sessions

Skills and qualifications required

  • 3 years of experience managing, troubleshooting, and tuning Linux systems.
  • Virtualization – Docker, KVM
  • BASH, Perl or Python
  • Systems orchestration and configuration management utilisation tools such as Puppet.
  • Apache HTTPd, FTP, SMTP, DNS, SSH, and CRON tasks.
  • Storage architectures.
  • Backup solutions and policies.

Useful

  • TCP/IP networking
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience in automated test coverage.
  • Working with Firewalls, Load Balancing, Proxies and services clustering
  • Understanding of large web environments in geographically distributed infrastructure
  • Understanding of security concepts and open source infrastructure
  • Exposure to BigData analytics, NoSQL database technology
