Job Title: Principal Engineer – Air Intake Systems

Department: Powertrain Systems

Reporting to: Engineering Manager - Powertrain Systems

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Management of a team of project & design engineers assuming technical ownership of:
  • Low Pressure Air intake
  • Air filtration
  • High Pressure Air intake
  • Charge Cooling systems

  • Responsibility for ensuring the delivery of owned systems to specific vehicle programmes including:
  • Technical Specification, FMEA, DVP, Vehicle / System level test specification
  • Budgets & Expenditure including setting system budgets
  • Cross project Timing & Delivery
  • Resource Planning & management
  • BOM definition management & tracking
  • Vehicle build & development support
  • Attending key vehicle project meetings.
  • Supplier liaison & management
  • Timely management & closure of engineering concerns
  • Proactive leadership of cost & weight reduction initiatives to deliver targets.
  • Develop and manage future technology roadmaps.
  • Manage and influence cross functional teams including concept designers, buyers and manufacturing engineers to achieve engineering targets.
  • Proactive engagement with Attribute teams to deliver optimised system performance.
  • Strategic definition & engagement of system D&D partnerships.
  • Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews.
  • Management & development of key suppliers to ensure delivery of market leading systems to required quality & cost in line with project timelines.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience in Exhaust & heat insulation system technical definition, design & release.
  • Detailed knowledge of materials & manufacturing processes required
  • CATIA V5 2D/3D knowledge with strong GD&T application experience.
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products.
  • Experienced in OEM or tier one component delivery
  • Component & system design within an APQP or similar framework including FMEA, component planning and PPAP

Qualifications and Training

Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above
