Engineer - Traffic & Road Safety
About the Role
Following the successful rebid of the Shropshire Council Highways and Engineering Consultancy Contract for a further 7 years, my client are currently looking to recruit a Traffic Engineer to join their expanding team based in the co-located Shrewsbury office, primarily delivering projects for our Shropshire client but also other clients around the UK when necessary.
Working in a team environment you will design and deliver traffic engineering and road safety projects through appropriate technical standards. You will be expected to exercise independent engineering judgement and provide innovative solutions to engineering problems. You will be a proactive and collaborative team member.
Specific role responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: 1. Undertaking scheme investigation, feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, site inspections, data collection and analysis, and works/construction inspection and supervision. 2. The preparation of technical designs in accordance with approved design procedures. 3. Preparation of technical documents and drawings. 4. Assisting in Road Safety Audits 5. Managing delivery of small projects or a small programme of work with minimal supervision. 6. Having a working knowledge of Health, Safety and Welfare and CDM responsibilities 7. Take responsibility for own personal development with the support of line manager and following an agreed development plan 8. Assist in the development of others

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience: * A Degree or HNC/ HND (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering (or other relevant discipline) or have other demonstrable experience and be working towards Incorporated or Chartered status of a relevant professional institution and you will need to demonstrate ability to assist in the delivery of projects, technical excellence and innovation. * Experience and knowledge in Traffic, Road Safety or general civil engineering projects. * Experience and a working knowledge of relevant design standards ie TSRGD, Traffic Signs Manual, Manual for Streets, DMRB. * You will be IT/computer literate and knowledge and experience of appropriate design software such as AutoCAD, KeySign, KeyLines and KeyPost would be desirable. * Good communication skills and fluent in spoken and written English are essential and a full valid UK driving licence is required.
