Design Engineer - Test Systems


£25,000 - £30,000 + Holiday + Benefits

Design Engineer required to join an R&D company that is leading the way in digital printing innovation.

As Design Engineer you will work on the design and build of test rigs and harnesses for PCB's, electrical assemblies and complex machinery from scratch.

The ideal Design Engineer will hold a degree in Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical engineering, have 3-5 years of experience in developing ATE / Test solutions for bed of nails testing, flying probe testing or Black Box testing, possess hands on experience working in developing test solutions for manufacturing / production.

Knowledge of CAD Tools such as Solidworks or Altium.
It is beneficial if you have exposure to programming languages such as C#, Python, VB and .NET.

The Role:

* Design Engineer

* Designing and building test rigs and harnesses for PCBs, electro-mechanical assemblies and complex machinery from scratch.

* Hands-on manufacturing of test-rigs / cable harnesses for test solutions.

* Design and specification of test-rigs / solutions including wiring diagrams and functional specifications for software development.

* Work with other Engineers and Production Operators to capture requirements for test-rig functionality.

* Design test-rigs to work with AC (230V) / Low-voltage DC (24V or 48V) / High-Voltage DC (>1kV) power supplies.

* Validate test-rig designs / solutions against requirements specification.

* Design custom test-rig enclosures or modify off-the-shelf enclosures as needed.

The Person:

* Design Engineer

* Degree in Electronics & Electrical / Mechanical Engineering

* Significant hands-on experience in developing test-solutions for manufacturing / production.

* Knowledge of CAD tools like Solidworks or Altium Designer.

* Exposure to programming languages like C#, Python, VB.NET are a bonus.

* 3-5 year's hands-on experience in developing ATE / Test Solutions for bed-of-nails testing, flying-probe testing or black-box testing.

* Able to define test processes for new designs and assemblies for functional and quality-assurance validation.

* Able to select, specify, and source components (switches, power supplies, data acquisition systems, communications adaptors) for design.

* Working with Data Acquisition tools like Pico oscilloscopes, multi-meters, DAQs and programmable AC / DC power supplies.

* Significant experience of test-rig hardware design, validation, testing, debugging and maintenance.

* Working with mechanical lathes / drill-presses / CNC machines / power tools to build test enclosures.

* Comfortable with high-voltage DC (>1kV) and AC (1-phase and 3-phase) designs.

* Understanding of production equipment design issues such as user friendliness, serviceability, ruggedness and non-invasive electrical test connections.

* Strong knowledge of operator, product, and equipment safety in test environments.

* Knowledge of industrial communications protocols such as MODBUS, Ethernet, and using RS232 / RS485 for serial communications interfacing.

* Experience of PCB design for test-rigs would be an added advantage.
