GTS Database Developer - Colchester
As a Database Developer, you will be expected to succeed at the following tasks: Candidate Responsibilities · The Database Developer will work primarily on data warehousing and Business Intelligence solutions, working in collaboration with colleagues developing our Enterprise Business Applications. Carry out fact finding tasks into the business's processes to see what they do and how they do it - elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis. · You will understand and analyse the needs of both internal business units and OEM customers and design creative, pragmatic solutions, by either enhancing the existing platforms or providing custom solutions when necessary. · Working across various global projects simultaneously serving leading automotive OEM clients. · Engage with the Business Analysts and Project Managers, to understand, clarify and confirm requirements and high-level technical overview. · Engage with Lead Developers / Solutions Architects to understand, clarify and confirm the design and architecture. · Code, configure, correct, and document applications/ code enhancements, which meet defined specifications in accordance with standards and guidelines. · Work with existing Data Architect to assist in the design of the Physical Data Model (PDM) (based on the Logical Data Model (LDM). · To create mappings between PDM and LDM. · Write business logic using database specific programming (PL SQL / T-SQL / PL/pgSQL / LUA). · Build and maintain ETL jobs using scripting and ETL tools. · Supply development assistance and guidance where needed, for project and business as usual changes. · Identify applicable system platform, components, and dependencies. · Provide uniform integration into legacy systems. · Prepare and maintain documentation to meet the needs of the business, ensuring interface specifications are included in completed deliverable. · Participate in code reviews and ensure that all solutions are aligned to pre-defined architectural specifications. · Working within an agile development team at all stages of the development cycle. · Working on own initiative to achieve agreed specification and timing. · Sharing knowledge with development group on regular basis. Candidate Specifications · Degree in an IT related discipline or equivalent qualification. · Minimum of four years’ experience with an Oracle database or other similar relational database. · Demonstrable database programming skills. · Expert knowledge of SQL. · Expertise in database query performance tuning. · Knowledge of ETL code and tools, ideally knowledge of CloverETL. · Knowledge of industry trends in data technologies such as Hadoop / MPP / NoSQL, NewSQL etc. · Understanding of architecture (N tier applications) and schema design (star schemas, E-R modelling, normalisation etc). Competencies and Skills Required · The ability to confidently and clearly communicate complex technical information to colleagues. · Ability to work well under pressure. · Ability to work within a group and independently. · Good communication skills and be able to liaise with the business community. · Can do attitude – bringing a start-up ethic to a big company. · Willing to adjust to occasional flexible working arrangements.
