In 2018/19 the Operations Team intend to introduce an in-house dedicated team to provide a temporary traffic management service to support our planned and reactive services. Currently Operations spend around £3/4m each year with external contractors and initial indications show that significant savings and benefits would be realised by delivering part of this work ourselves.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual, initially on 6 to 12-month basis (may lead to permanent) who understands temporary traffic management and has an ability to develop, lead and deliver the project. The project will include the final development and agreed of a detailed business case, securing funding for the function, recruitment and development of dedicated staff and management of the service to deliver against agreed performance and financial targets.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to use skills and experience gained in delivering operational activity in a new area of business or equally someone who is business or project minded to support Via to build something new to deliver better value for the company.

Other responsibilities will include: -

·Develop, implement, monitor and report on the deployment and effectiveness of resources across Via’s operational services, including people, vehicles and plant, identifying and advising operational teams of concerns / opportunities for improvement.

·Support the delivery of operational services by providing a central temporary traffic management service, maximising financial and operational benefits for Via and for any external clients the service may be provided for,

·Responsible for receiving, coordinating and allocating work, and providing a service to monitor completion of work and whereabouts of resources for safety, security and performance purposes.

·Develop and promote Via's temporary traffic management function to external customers with the aim of creating an economy of scale by maximising income generation.

·Contribute to the business planning and strategy for the Operations Division by promoting new initiatives and identifying opportunities for growth / cost reduction.

·Manage and monitor all aspects of the team's performance against agreed targets, ensuring the achievement of appropriate standards.

·To manage contracts with external service providers, contractors and customers in relation to the services provided by the unit. Seeking to minimise cost and risk and maximise returns at all time
