Ultra Electronics, Communication & Integrated Systems (Ultra CIS) is one of the larger UK based Ultra businesses and is operationally run as four business units: Information Assurance, Secure Communications, EWST and Surveillance & Security Systems. These business units are underpinned by a shared services structure which incorporates finance, HR, operations and communications. Across Ultra CIS we provide encryption, network protection, automated payments, tactical and commercial communications and telemetry systems, covert and mobile surveillance systems and situational awareness technology to defence, public sector and commercial customers worldwide.

Job Purpose:
The Company core software products relate to real time integration of sensor data into a situational awareness picture that is distributed to multiple network connected clients for display geospatially on maps. With variants for both commercial and military customers. There is a need for a Software Engineer to join the development team and be involved in the design and development of the product.

Scope / dimensions:
Working within the Software Department (currently a team of 10) on projects ranging in budgets from £50k to £15m.
Short periods of travel as required by projects, both within the UK and abroad. Permanent place of work is Burridge.

Key Responsibilities:
• Implement software design in to fulfil project requirements in accordance with the SSS Business Management Process (BMS), in particularly the software development process section within the BMS.
• Implement the design of software as required ensuring it meets the requirements, with guidance from senior engineers.
• Implement informal and formal software testing as required ensuring it meets the requirements, with guidance from senior engineers.
• Interact with customers as required to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Keep informed of relevant technical and security standards and requirements.
• Liaise with other development teams and other departments where necessary to ensure the work is followed through to the required standard and timelines.
• Manage security of information as defined in the Security manual.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
• In-depth knowledge of C++ programming language.
• In-depth knowledge of Qt cross-platform SDK.
• An understanding of the factors affecting software performance, and the ability to design and write code that is maintainable, extensible and efficient.
• Knowledge of MS Windows OS.

• Knowledge of QML user interface specification and programming language.
• Knowledge of Qt Quick library of types and functionality for QML.
• Knowledge of JavaScript programming language.
• Knowledge of multi-threaded applications.
• Knowledge of video streaming technologies (RTP, MPEG2-TS, H264).
• Knowledge of Linux OS (desktop and embedded).
• Knowledge of Radar systems.
• Knowledge of geographic mapping systems system.
• Knowledge of Agile and Scrum software development processes.

• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent industrial experience.
• Ability to obtain security clearance to SC level.
