Altro have been at the forefront of innovation for almost 100 years. Today, working closely with architects, end customers, engineers, designers and contractors around the world, our insight and expertise help them transform everyday spaces into environments that can improve the wellbeing of everyone that uses them.

Due to recent increases in activity a requirement has arisen for a Legal Manager to join our team here in Letchworth Garden City. Legal work for the Altro Group is managed via the Company Secretarial Team and therefore this role will report into the Deputy Company Secretary.

The Legal Manager will triage all incoming legal work and queries, deciding on a case-by-case basis whether that work can be carried out in-house or needs to be referred to external counsel. It is envisaged that the Legal Manager will be able to carry out most standard UK commercial work in-house, but that they will manage specialist and international work via external counsel. Given the exposure to external counsel on a variety of issues, we believe this role offers a great development opportunity for a junior to mid-level commercial solicitor.

The right candidate will be able to show a proven track record in dealing with commercial matters and feel confident enough to become involved in the wider business and day to day mechanics of the organisation. Due to the small size but wide remit of the team, the workload will be very varied.

This is an opportunity for a solicitor with relevant experience to work for an international Safety Flooring and Car Care Product Manufacturer with its Head Office in Letchworth Garden City. The team supports the UK businesses and, to a lesser extent, international subsidiaries.

Example areas of responsibility:

Franchise agreements

Distribution Agreements

Agency Agreements

Supplier agreements

Sales and Purchase Terms and Conditions

Non-Disclosure Agreements

Escalated customer / supplier complaints

Product issues

Property leases

Marketing / promotional materials

Website contents

Loan notes / agreements

Oversee IP / Trademark work (via the Legal Assistant and a third-party Trademark agency)

The Legal Manager must be able to provide sound legal advice on a variety of standard commercial matters and have the confidence to judge when a matter should be referred to external counsel. The Legal Manager will manage the relationship with external specialist solicitors and will be involved in the legal aspects of the bid-management process, in particular for transport and transit. The Legal Manager will delegate work to the Legal Assistant as appropriate.

Person Specification:

Although we see this role as a great development opportunity, the ideal candidate will be confident and able to converse concisely and coherently at all levels within the business and be comfortable representing the department at a variety of business meetings. There are no other qualified solicitors working within the department, so any candidate must be comfortable working autonomously.

Must be a qualified Solicitor. Must be willing to get involved with anything the team is dealing with. This is a small team, so a ‘can-do’ attitude and willingness to carry out tasks outside of your specific role is also essential. Candidates must be low-ego and happy to work as part of a busy, back-office team. Strong IT skills are also required, including Microsoft Office.

Due to the nature of the business, experience in manufacturing or the commercial building trade would be beneficial, but is not a requirement
