Position Description:
The engine robustness engineers challenge is to deliver and improve the quality of engines by testing current production and launch phase engines built at various plants; this involves working with manufacturing, design engineers, suppliers etc to ensure high and consistent quality of the product and protect our customers. The role will work across engine gasoline, diesel engines and hybrid engines, manufactured in various plants worldwide. The focus will be predominantly on vehicle testing, teardown and analysis, but also considering method improvements, including performance, functional and emissions measurements ensure vehicle capability and consider noise factors to accelerate tests. The role will include leadership in developing, maintaining and communicating summary and status documentation, metrics, concise analysis as well as leading technical investigations and teams, and reporting to senior stakeholders on a regular basis to track major issues and delivery performance. There will also be a responsibility for creating test procedures, working with test methods and other engineering teams to optimise process. The role will involve getting involved closely with `hands on' vehicle testing at a number of test sites in the UK and around the world. At these sites JLR vehicles and engines are subjected to a number of different test regimes specifically selected to assess the robustness of the Powertrain. Testing will predominantly be UK based in the midlands, with regular work which requires overseas travel to support of testing in Germany

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED
Agile and flexible working habits. Travel for work is an ongoing requirement. There is also an expectation of support for overtime and weekend working when resolving critical issues during launch phases.
Role will require flexible working between the Gaydon and Whitley site on a daily basis via a team rota.
Problem resolution.
Issue investigation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills required for issue reporting and collaborative working with different teams.

Experience Required:
Occasional support required in Italy, UAE, Sweden, China and USA.
Whilst being responsible for the planning and monitoring of tests, a key requirement is the ability to fault find and resolve complex system issues and effectively manage and communicate findings to the system owners within the engines team as well as the wider engineering community by becoming a competent participant in the issue management system.
The role will involve working closely with project and test engineers, within the team and within service providers as well as closely with management.
The role demands a good knowledge of automotive systems and technology and a strong electrical, calibration and diagnostic capability.
A professional and quality driven approach is essential.
It is essential that the individual be; hard-working, effective, experienced, highly computer literate, highly comfortable with data-analysis - able to adapt to different systems and strategies. flexible working, requiring travel, varied work hours including overtime, professional and interested in being challenged in a high-performance, high-pressure environment.

Experience Preferred:
Must have good working knowledge of internal combustion engine components and systems.
Must have experience with powertrain testing in vehicle.
Must have experience with vehicle data loggers - user should be a user/practitioner.
Powertrain calibration and controls working level awareness.
Must hold full & valid driving licence for UK and European use and can demonstrate driving skills that meet the company standard to enable use of high performance JLR company vehicles (including prototypes and test fleet).

Education Preferred:
Experience of working with engineering/test suppliers in both the UK and Europe
