Seeking CNC Machinist Night Shift Leader

We are currently looking for a highly skilled CNC Machinist to cover the night shift operation leading the workshop whilst performing hands-on engineering activities. This role will involve taking responsibility for managing workflow, front-line problem solving and re-prioritising where necessary and ownership for shift performance and reporting.

Start: ASAP
Location: Ely, Cambridgeshire
Hours: Monday – Wednesday 5pm – 5am, Thursday 5pm – 11pm
Hourly Rate: £Negotiable! + 33% shift allowance

Your primary focus will be to program, set and operate new and repeat jobs on CNC machining centres. You will also be required to provide support to setters with proving out programs for new jobs, ensuring that all jobs are completed efficiently and on time. This position would suit an individual who has the potential to take a leading hand role within the workshop on the night shift.

Duties will include:

• Programming, setting and operating conventional CNC milling machines, following correct company procedures and methods to maintain consistency
• Machine components to a very high standard and be responsible for own quality
• Identify best suited tooling and manufacturing methods
• Minimise setup and run times whilst maintaining a high standard of quality
• Train and assist other team members whenever required
• Maximise workflow on multiple machines
• Ensure programs, tooling and fixtures are saved and stored for future identification
• Adhere to site Health and Safety standards at all times
• Maintain a clean working environment, work in a safe and professional manner at all times
• Contribute to continuous improvement of plant efficiencies and performance.
• Any other general duties as required

Skills and Experience required:

• Able to interpret detailed engineering drawings
• Competent in the use of hand held measuring equipment
• Basic IT skills
• CAD/CAM software knowledge (For candidates applying with programming experience)
• DNC software knowledge
• Apprenticeship trained or experienced in CNC machining
• Competent use of Fanuc / Haas control
• Good understanding of G and M code programming
• Experience with 4th axis machining
• Basic appreciation and understanding of other processes for example anodising, heat treatment, painting, milling, grinding
• Knowledge of machining materials such as stainless steels, steels, aluminium, brass, copper and various plastics
• Capable of providing accurate and consistent data to support Short Interval Control of equipment performance.
• Capable of contributing to root cause analysis and front-line problem solving, to support continuous improvement of plant performance.
