Who will I be working with?

Arriva TrainCare (ATC) is an independent rolling stock maintenance and refurbishment business based in Crewe, with depots across 5 locations in the UK. What will the role of Engineering Apprentice entail?

Reporting to the Department Head, as an Engineering Apprentice you will undertake training on electrical and mechanical maintenance and overhaul of locomotives and rolling stock.

You’ll be working towards a time-served apprentice qualification over a 4-year period, where you’ll develop your skills and knowledge by assisting the engineering team with day to day work on a wide range of locomotives, carrying out Light and Heavy Maintenance activities. You will also gain an insight and overview on how other departments operate and link in to Engineering to meet customer needs.

In order to achieve your NVQ Level 3 Rail Engineering Technician qualification, you will be required to attend college. Exact details of how often and for how long will be discussed at the selection days.

What will I need to be considered for this Engineering Apprentice role?

* A minimum of 4 GCSE’s, grade A to C in Maths, English and Science
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
* Superb organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines and manage time effectively
* Experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
* A flexible, professional and proactive attitude to work

Although not essential, engineering experience would be advantageous, along with an understanding of mechanical principles and of the rail industry

What will I receive in return?

Starting salary: £13,019, rising to £16,274 in year 2, £24,411 in year 3 and £32,548 in year 4

Hours of Work: 8:30am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Flexibility will be required on occasion to work shifts, which will include evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
