CQR are working closely with our client to recruit an experienced CNC Setter / Operator to join their expanding production team which due to growth has become an immediate permanent requirement! Our clients Barnstaple site is an advanced manufacturing plant that adopts lean principles and continual improvement. The right person will ideally have completed a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or NVQ III and typically have a minimum 2 years’ experience at Level 3 Setter/Operator. Experience in a valve / pump / pipe and vessel manufacturer, making products for the oil, gas, petrochemical and power processing industries would be a bonus. About the job and responsibilities…

• We are looking for experienced setter/operators who will be required to set and operate a wide range of machines to maximum capacity and to produce goods of the highest quality.
• Working on the following machines: Okuma Lathes, Mazak and Bridgeport Mills. The materials you will be using are stainless steel and allloys.
• Setting and operating machines to optimum efficiency, ensuring regular checking of machine tooling and quality ensuring satisfaction of all quality standards and productivity standards.
• Operating machines to optimum efficiency ensuring regular checking of machine speed, tooling and quality.
• Through continuous review of machine set-up and operation to ensure all product manufactured meets the established quality standard.
• Read and follow instructions on drawings, routings, set-up sheets and ISO procedures so that the work produced meets customer requirements in terms of delivery times and quality.
• Change the full range of tools on allocated machines to ensure full efficiency, quality and cost effectiveness are achieved.
• Maintain a clean and tidy working environment so that the work area hazards are minimised, tooling and gauges etc. are protected and presentation meets the Company standard.
• Ensure effective handover to next shift especially where this involves the night shift or weekend shift in order that they can continue effective manufacturing.
• Will train other Operators in the use of the machines, safety equipment and product.
• Utilise all company provided personal protective equipment as well as other safety devices to ensure the job holders personal safety is maintained and that others are not jeopardised by their actions.

The right person…

• Applicants should be either time served, qualified to NVQ 3 level or have completed a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship
• Ideally have a minimum of 2 years experience at Level 3 setter
• Instrumentation Product Knowledge is an advantage
• Numerate, able to follow written instructions and have reasonable literacy skills.
• You will be self motivated and able to demonstrate pro-activity and flexibility in moving between tasks and machines.
