A rare opportunity has now arisen for a Programme Manager to join one of the UK’s largest, independent aerospace and defence companies. They specialise in the conversion, modification, maintenance and support of civil and military aircraft, defence vehicle engineering, shelter manufacture, composite solutions and all associated personnel, training and advice. The company has more than 2000 employees and an annual turnover in excess of £329 million.
Based at their head office in Cambridge, they are about to embark on a 2 year business systems transformation programme aimed at replacing all legacy systems with a modern, integrated, single platform across all business units within the company. The intention is to deliver a first live “pilot” system implementation and organisational readiness by 1st January 2019.
The project team will comprise a multi-disciplinary team of circa 40 full-time staff drawn from business functional experts, consulting staff, in-house business analysts, trainers, systems integration specialists and technical IT staff. The team will be supplemented as required during different stages of the project with several part-time staff and subject matter experts for defining detail requirements, endorsing system design and performing user acceptance testing and service introduction.
The Programme Manager will report into the Programme Director and will be responsible for the ‘Process’ and ‘Change’ streams from start to finish i.e. during design, build testing and roll out. These streams will have a mixture of IT and business staff and consulting/ training staff.
The main objectives of the programme are to:
• Implement a standard business system covering:
- Manufacturing
- Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO)
- Procurement (including SRM, inventory and trade controls)
- Order to cash (including CRM shipping and export trade controls)
- Projects
- Finance
• Standardise and optimise the business processes across all our business units and where possible, automate them to drive efficiency improvements.
• Enable our digital and mobile ambitions to drive further efficiency gains by delivering information, tools and materials at the point of use “just in time” to eliminate our reliance on paper-based processes.


• Lead the business process and change management aspects of the programme from initial design through to implementation.
• Drive and coordinate the activities of several business process work streams to ensure all areas deliver a cohesive, integrated end to end “out of the box” solution on plan and budget, including (but not limited to):
- Maintaining active engagement with programme stakeholders across the company and as appropriate, the wider customer and supply chain communities.
- Coordinating the preparation of integrated work stream activity plans, resource plans and budgets and agreeing them with the Programme Director or Project Sponsor and Steering Committee as required;
- Agreeing business change and communications delivery approach;
- Highlighting and championing business process changes that will be needed to align to best practice and working with stakeholders to make the required changes to operational ways of working;
- Overseeing end to end testing and acceptance of systems and procedures;
- Ensuring changes to processes and procedures and the touch points with systems are fully documented within the business management system and signed off by stakeholders;
- Ensuring the effective delivery of appropriate and timely end user training that delivers a competent user community that has confidence in the way the system operates and the information it provides;
- Planning for and preparing the organisation for service introduction and an appropriate post implementation support regime
- Following good governance and progress reporting regimens at individual work stream and across interdependent work streams.
- Participating in and complying with recommendations from quality assurance or project audit reviews;
- Prepare lessons learned feedback to carry forward potential improvements and accelerators into subsequent phases.
- A disciplined approach is essential to meet the demanding timetable and ensure that systems are delivered in their “vanilla” form.

About You:

• Degree educated
• Business rather than IT background
• Ideally experience within the manufacturing, engineering, aerospace and defence or another safety critical industry
• Demonstrable experience and understanding of what it takes to deliver end to end business systems and technology enabled business change projects.
• The leadership and interpersonal skills to build a motivated team that has the energy, determination and resilience to deliver on the promises we make.

You must be eligible to apply for SC clearance and, therefore, must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years
