The working hours are 42 hours each week on a rota basis, working nights from 8pm to 8am.

This role will provide all activities to residents. Working closely with the Care Manager/Registered Manager, the post holder will manage, support and supervise a group of up to 8 carers.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities of the Night Registered General Nurse:

• Lead an effective, motivated and committed team of care staff providing residents with person centred care that will meet their personal, physical, social and psychological needs in accordance with National Care Standards, GSCC Code of Conduct and organisational values
• Responsible for and contribute to the preparation of care plans, their updating and review by the care team, relevant to each individual resident’s needs. This should be done in consultation with residents, advocates and their families
• Ensure effective, open and positive communication within the Home including residents, staff, relatives, volunteers, other professionals and all visitors to the home, using the Key Working system, as appropriate. All of which must be recorded and documented to agreed standards and timescales
• Accountable for the safe-keeping, storage, administration, ordering, recording and handling of drugs in accordance with current legislation and NMC guidelines
• Responsible for keeping relevant records in accordance with professional, organizational and regulatory standards (e.g. CQC, NMC) and ensure others also keep appropriate records to agreed standards
• Ensure relevant assessments and inductions of staff and residents into the Home are carried out according to the GSCC Code of Conduct, organisational and National Standards
• Deputise for the unit in the absence of the care manager or senior nurse
• Support the well-being of residents and security of the building by carrying out regular checks to ensure all criteria are met
• Report to and alert the Care Manager or Registered Manager of any untoward incident, significant occurrences or anything that may impact on the service or care provisions
• Keep abreast of policies and procedures as well as other professional and regulatory guidelines and standards ensuring they are followed at all times
• Contribute to the correct stock control and ensuring that consumables required for operations are available

Requirements for the Night RGN:

• RGN or RMN, registered with NMC
• Post basic qualification relevant to care of older people is highly desirable
• Experience and evidence of leading and supporting an effective motivated and committed team in the health or the social care sector
• Experience of working with older people in an environment that promotes choice, wellbeing, diversity and protection
• Evidence of promoting best practice in Safeguarding Adults
• Good literacy and numeracy skills as well as ability to communicate effectively (Good telephone manner)
• Ability to plan and monitor care for residents and other 'activities’ necessary for the provision of care (i.e. ordering medication etc)
• Good Computer skills (word, email) is highly desirable
• Active practice of administration of medicine and understanding of the regulations regarding administration and storage of medicine
• Evidence of understanding of confidentiality and data protection
• Ability to provide learning, training and development opportunities for staff
• Ability to deputise in the absence of a senior manager
