Due to significant & consistent growth, we have a cracking opportunity for an Instructional Designer to head up a team of four whilst still keeping a hand in Design and working on some prestigious e-learning projects with key clients.

You will be tasked with designing engaging and effective learning content through working closely with subject matter experts and by collaboration with the production team/graphic designers/external suppliers. You will establish learning goals and requirements, identify learning objectives, write storyboards and where appropriate use rapid development tools to create active storyboards.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Manage a team of four Instructional Designers, providing coaching, mentoring and development to each team member
  • Review team performance and undertake one-to-one sessions, monthly & annual appraisals
  • Assist with recruiting & training potential new team members
  • Assist with identifying and scheduling ID resources for all assigned projects including Associates/Contractors
  • Ensure that external costs are agreed (e.g. voice over) with Project Managers prior to any engagement
  • Work with Account Managers and the Sales Team and attend kick-off meetings for new project requirements
  • Work with the Sales Team to produce pre-sales treatments for proposals and attend sales pitches
  • Maintain appropriate project documentation including Content Outlines, and Storyboards and relevant change control documents and versions for all work and ensure documents are saved in the correct location with versions managed
  • Adhere to, understand and help improve all relevant ISO processes and project documentation for Content Development
  • Deliver to agreed timelines working with Project Managers to ensure targets for delivery are met and agreed invoicing trigger points and recognised revenue targets are met as they relate to your deliverables
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the team, including staff, clients and SMEs
  • Undertake Learning Design across multiple projects
  • Meet with clients/stakeholders/SMEs to consult on project aims, goals and requirements
  • Manage subject matter expertise and research content where necessary
  • Provide regular updates and reports to clients and project managers
  • Commission graphics/artwork/video production/technical development as appropriate in liaison with colleagues in the development team and the project managers
  • Provide creative input and ideas for all aspects of the production process
  • Log all personal work time on ‘Coretime’ for all activities accurately ensuring that time is recorded against project work at least once a week – preferably once a day
  • Ensure personal skills are up-to-date and relevant as they relate to project management and learning technologies
  • Ensure that version control is continually managed and maintained for all aspects of your Learning Design work and that correct versions of deliverables are sent to clients
  • Ensure Performance Development Reviews are conducted each year, objectives are agreed and logged in our PDR system and that regular 1-2-1 meetings are held for all staff managed by you.
  • Scope

  • Learning Design outputs/deliverables for projects at agreed quality levels and with sound pedagogical learning principles
  • Pre-sales support – writing treatments for proposals
  • Video production and script writing
  • Voice over sourcing and scripts
  • To work collaboratively with the development team to produce content to agreed quality levels for your projects
  • To follow the ISO Content Development processes and ensure adherence to agreed specifications
  • Line management duties for specified staff
  • Client facing both on and off site as required
  • Attendance of conferences and exhibitions as required.
