The role:

You will be part of the Wolseley UK Enterprise Architecture Team/Program responsible for taking a leadership approach in architecting and governing solutions within the context of the enterprise architecture (EA) across the organization, with a particular focus on systems integration and service oriented architecture.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Providing architectural expertise, direction and support to IT colleagues, with a particular focus on service oriented architecture and integration.
  • Conceptualising new projects; recommending solutions and strategies.
  • Designing, documenting and overseeing implementation of end to end integrated systems
  • Engaging the business and technical teams with architectural solutions which enable the development or creation of identified business capabilities.
  • Conducting research on emerging technologies and recommending technologies that will increase cost effectiveness, new thinking and infrastructure flexibility
  • Facilitate the evaluation and selection of software product standards, as well as the design of standard software configurations.
  • Support the process of identifying the organizational impact skills, processes, structures and financial impact of the ESA.
  • Taking responsibility for formulating and monitoring Architectural Standards and Governance in conjunction with other Architects at WUK and within the group.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with Enterprise Architects across the group to promote best practice and sharing, including architecting solutions that could potentially be shared across the group
  • Analyse the current IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
  • Support the Lead Enterprise Architect in promoting the EA process, outcomes and results to the organization, including the enterprise's IT and business leaders.
  • Understand and advocate the adoption of the Group and Wolseley UK Future State Architecture and IT strategies across Wolseley UK
  • Manage consultants, other 3rd parties and consulting relationships where appropriate
  • What we are looking for:

  • Previous experience in at least two IT disciplines (such as technical architecture, service oriented architecture development, application architecture, middleware or information analysis) in a multitier environment.
  • Strong understanding of application development methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of SOA, middleware, database technologies, object-oriented analysis and design.
  • An understanding of Enterprise Architecture Frameworks including TOGAF and a good understanding of the principles of IT Governance.
  • Familiarity with basic information management practices.
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
  • Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture.
  • Knowledge of business re-engineering principles and processes.
  • Familiarity with basic graphical modelling approaches, tools and model repositories.
  • Ability to translate business needs into Solution requirements and the ability to estimate the financial impact of Solution alternatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
