Business Development Manager- Geotechnical Engineering
£40,000- £50,000 + commission + flexi working + strong benefits
Location: Stockport
Permanent Position

Our client is a successful organisation who design and manufacture advanced electronic products and systems for safety critical markets worldwide.

They are looking to appoint a business manager to head up a new area of the business. The focus of the role is to grow the business segment, winning new accounts and customers through a combination of aggressive organic growth and carefully targeted acquisition strategy.

Your key responsibilities include the following:

* Manage segment budgets for sales, margins, controllable costs and working capital to allow for sustainable growth of the Company.
* Develop, implement and co-ordinate a business strategy in–line with the organisation’s growth targets.
* Effectively manage the business unit product portfolio
* Identify and provide direction on new product and service development offerings.
* Build, manage, motivate and develop segment team members.
* Identify and support acquisition activities for the given segment.

Core competencies include the following:

* Functional/Technical Skills – broad technical knowledge and background within geotechnical engineering/ market
* Communication Skills – strong interpersonal skills; gains support and respect through open communication style and balanced ego; listens well and able to build consensus and support internally and externally.
* Planning – accurately scopes-out length and difficulty of tasks and projects; sets objectives and goals; breaks-down work in to the process steps; develops schedules; utilises subject-matter experts for resource; anticipates and adjusts for problems and roadblocks; measures performance against goals; evaluates results; creates effective solutions, where appropriate.
* Company Culture – comfortable working within a small business environment, with ability to work with larger organisations as customers or business partners
* Business Acumen – exhibits strong commercial and selling skills, coupled with broad business acumen; ability to take careful consideration of the market place and develop a coherent business strategy; think laterally and creatively so as to take advantage of market opportunities.
* Interpersonal Skills – easily builds lasting, constructive and mutually beneficial relationships with other individuals, internally and externally; comfortable in negotiating and working in a collaborative manner, to achieve results.
* Action Oriented – develops and implements strategies that are driven by tangible actions; plans, builds and sustains momentum; lays-out work in a well-planned and organised manner; anticipates obstacles and is prepared with contingency plans so as not to impede drive to the goal.
* People Management/Leadership – builds a strong team ethos, leading through good communication and providing clear direction and strong support of the individual; seeks to build a world-class team of sales professionals.

Skills and background required:

* 5+ years experience working within a technical business development/ sales role
* Geotechnical background, preferably within underground mining applications
* Demonstrate experience in the sales of products and services to given market segments
* Demonstrate experience with market or business intelligence research
* Ability to think analytically and strategically, critically evaluate and clearly synthesise information
* Ability to organise and complete multiple projects with tight deadlines
* Demonstrate the ability to persuade and negotiate at the highest levels within a customers’ organisation
