Student Counsellors x 2

Part time - 18.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE)

Working across all four campuses

Fixed Term contract - 12 months

Salary: £37,105 per annum (pro rata for part time hours)

Edinburgh College is seeking to recruit two suitably qualified and experienced people to take up the posts of Student Counsellor within the Counselling Service Pilot. This is an exciting new initiative to provide short term individual counselling to enable students to maintain and enhance their emotional and psychological wellbeing, and to achieve their full academic potential.

What we can offer you

You will work with our Student Experience team to establish a Student Counselling Service across the four campuses - this will initially be a pilot scheme running from August 2018 to June 2019. You will each provide an agreed number of counselling sessions per week; given the importance of collaborative working, there is an expectation that your days of work will be Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - however this can negotiated as some evening work may be required.

From June 2018 to August 2018, the main focus of the role will be to develop and set up networks, structures and procedures to support and establish the service within the College culture and systems. Thereafter, the role will mainly involve carrying out assessment interviews; providing individual counselling to students experiencing psychological or emotional distress and difficulties; and administering, monitoring and evaluating the service, to ensure its efficient delivery.

We have great benefits at Edinburgh College, with generous annual leave, a career average pension scheme and access to other benefits like childcare vouchers and cycle to work. We also have great on-site facilities including a gym, pool, training restaurants, shops and canteens. Plus you get to be part of a unique organisation which contributes to improving the lives of others.

What you can offer us

You will have a recognised professional qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy, with a minimum of two years post-qualifying practice experience, preferably in a similar organisational setting. You will be accredited by COSCA/BACP (or equivalent), or be a member of and working within the Code of Ethics of a recognised professional body.

As well as two years post qualifying counselling practise, you will also have experience of doing counselling work, or of carrying out a counselling skills role, with young adults. Most importantly, you will have the capacity, creativity and relational agility to develop productive and meaningful therapeutic bonds with clients who may initially find it difficult to engage in counselling and to access their own agency. You should have an ability to practise short term counselling, have an understanding of how the College and other social contexts impact on the student's life and therapeutic process, have a knowledge of young adult developmental issues, and be interested in working within a small team.

Please see the person specification for a full breakdown of the essential and desirable criteria. The successful candidate will be required to work at any Edinburgh College campus. (Note: Clinical Supervision costs will be met separately by Edinburgh College)

Closing Date: Sunday 29 April 2018

Scheduled Interview Date: Tuesday 15 May 2018
