About the Role
Are you looking for a challenging and varied transport planning role with a major organisation?

This post is based in the Woking office where we have a large transport planning team offering a wide range of services to public and private sector clients. This team deals with strategic and micro-simulation modelling, scheme appraisal, development planning/control, business cases, and a variety of related topics.

The requirement is for a Transport Modeller/Planner specialising in SATURN modelling. There will also be the opportunity to contribute to the Transport Planning team through other inputs such as data analysis, survey planning, economic appraisal, business cases etc.

You will be required to contribute to transport modelling and forecasting studies and the assessment of scheme impacts, including environmental, operational and economic appraisals.

Demonstration of your experience in a transport planning occupation, in either the public or the private sector would be expected with evidence of developing responsibilities within this career.

Role Specific Responsibilities:

• Undertake SATURN modelling. • Contribute to other aspects of Transport Planning, modelling & economic appraisal.
• Downloading, extracting, manipulating and analysing traffic data
• Extracting, downloading and presenting other data (e.g. geometry, accidents, bus routes);
• Calculation recording and checking • Deliver to agreed personal targets.
• Deliver technical inputs to required quality, cost and time.
• Prepare high quality technical notes.
• Keep up to date with developments in areas of professional expertise.
• Actively contribute towards other duties across the Business Unit e.g.: health & safety, quality, training, Client feedback etc.
• Engage with more senior members of staff to confirm scope of work, timescales and budget expectations. Identify potential for change to agreed delivery outcomes.
• Resolve problems or issues to support the delivery of projects or design objectives, ensuring that deliverables conform with the project manager’s requirements.
• Maintain effective working relationships with team members and clients.

• Numerate first degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related subject is essential.
• MSc in Transport Planning is desirable.
• Working towards Chartered Professional (CEng, TPP or CMILT) status.
• You must have experience of using SATURN in a work/project environment (essential); • Experience of other software packages including S-Paramics, VISSIM, VISUM, TUBA, COBALT and QUADRO would be a strong advantage (desirable);
• Experience of the following would also be advantageous:- MapInfo, MyRIAD, traffic surveys, data analysis (desirable);
• You should have a clear understanding of UK Government transport planning policies and guidance, including WebTAG and DMRB (essential);
• You should have a knowledge of transport modelling and appraisal theory and methods, data collection, analytical techniques and appraisal methods (essential);
• You should have a proven ability of working within a team environment in undertaking modelling & appraisal projects and contributing towards the preparation of key deliverables (essential);
• You should have a proven ability in drafting technical notes which are clear and concise and understood by colleagues (essential);
• You should have a proven ability to innovate and create solutions to complex modelling issues (essential);
• You should have the ability to analyse and solve modelling & appraisal problems and to accurately interpret results (essential);
• You should be proficient in Word and Excel and understand/have experience of macros etc. (essential);
• You should be confident of working independently with minimum supervision (essential);
• Experience of working with public and private sector clients would be advantageous (desirable)
