An opportunity has arisen for a paralegal to join the Specialist Personal Injury (PI) team.

The Specialist PI department represents clients who have suffered injury either as a result of an accident, predominantly road traffic accidents and accidents at work, or from a harmful product such as a metal on metal hip implant or PIP breast implants.

This role will involve working predominantly on breast implants, hip prostheses and other medical device claims.

The successful candidate will be working within a busy claimant litigation team taking specific responsibility for administering a cohort of clients up to and beyond the trial of product liability group actions.

Various duties to include:
Updating clients as to the progress of their claims
Reviewing medical records and potentially preparing bundles of medical records including indexing the records
Dealing with telephone enquiries from clients
Assisting senior lawyers in all procedures, including instructing counsel and issuing and pursing court proceedings

The role also involves assisting on unitary cases and providing a general supporting role to the entire department.

An understanding of the litigation process will be a distinct advantage.

The client base is nationally distributed therefore the role will involve communication with clients via the telephone. Excellent inter-personal skills are also essential along with a confident telephone manner.

The successful applicant will also be able to demonstrate excellent negotiating skills as they will be responsible for negotiating the settlement of claims.

A good level of IT literacy is needed, to include MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Accurate keyboard skills are also essential for this post as the successful candidate will be undertaking their own typing.

This role would ideally suit an LPC graduate or similar academic achievement or experience
