Role: Programme Planner - Rail Electrification
Rate: £500 a day Limited
Duration: 6 months
Hours: 40 a week
Role in Detail:
As part of the Rail Electrification business, the Senior Programme Planner has responsibility for the effective planning of turnkey projects. The Senior Programme Planner works under the direction of the Planning Manager and/or Programme Manager to produce robust and accurate baseline and progressed programmes for implementation by the project team.

The Senior Programme Planner will track progress and capture change by updating project programmes on a periodic basis and will produce reports to demonstrate schedule and cost performance against the baseline as required by the Planning Manager, Project Manager and/or the Commercial Management Team.

The Senior Programme Planner may have responsibility for resource reporting on project, portfolio and business levels. This includes the production of strategic reports showing resource over/under allocation for use by the business.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / TASKS

Liaise with programme team to assess programme requirements from technical, contractual and commercial documentation and ensure programmes align to internal/external requirements
Responsible for setting and communicating the goals and objectives of the planners within the team.
Co-ordinate the output of the planning team, including contract resources, in order to ensure robust solutions are developed.
Manage the provision of effective planning on Rail Electrification tenders and bids with regard to resources, plans, technology, risk, process etc.
To aid in identifying improvements to the planning procedures and processes, driving through change within the business and in line with the companies values and Business Strategy.
To identify training, recruitment and development needs of the planners within the team.
Co-ordination/integration of multiple projects and the management of inter-project relationships.
Maintains and develop good relationships with customers, industry associations, suppliers and partners.
Close liaison with contractual and business partners to ensure agreed business goals are realised.
Ensuring the safety of staff, customers and third parties in relation to business activities.
Ensure plans / programmes are appropriately structured, coded, resourced, budgeted and progressed to provide the Project Management team and members with an indication of the status of the project and to ensure the programme is realistic and achievable.
Monitor and measure progress / performance and provide effective project reporting to the Client, Project Management staff and Finance function.
Liaising with the Project Manager and the Client to ensure all the required timescales are being adhered to and to ensure the critical path is followed at all times
Provide guidance and delegation of work to Assistant Planner as and when necessary

COMPETENCIES

Knowledge & Experience:

Strong leadership, team and motivational skills
Extensive planning experience within large multi-disciplinary companies or within UK turnkey railway projects
A working knowledge of NEC3 forms of contract
Strong capability operating Primavera P6 and Web EPPM
Strong MS Excel and MS Word skills for report production and narration
HNC educated in Engineering
Recognised project management qualification (e.g. APM, PRINCE2, PMI)
Strong commercial aptitude & awareness
Demonstrable understanding of project controls and project management practices
Strong management skills & ability in terms of, written & verbal communication; presentation skills; problem identification, categorisation and solving; people skills; customer management; negotiation skills and change management
