The Lead Business Analyst is responsible for leading a team of Business Analysts who ensure that the IT systems and business processes support business objectives to enhance the quality and effectiveness of services provided to customers.

The Lead Business Analyst’s role is accountable for the day-to-day functions and resources of the Business Analysis Team and is responsible for setting and evolving the working practices, standards and quality of business analysis for our client (establishing a BA Centre of Excellence / Community of Practice). Where appropriate the Lead Business Analyst will also undertake core Business Analysis work as outlined below as well as overseeing and assuring the quality of the Business Analysis work delivered by the wider Business Analysis team.

Accountabilities

* Define, implement and maintain the Business Analysis tools and methodologies in use by the BA team in order to drive quality and consistency of analysis deliverables.
* Facilitate the establishment of team structure and roles, hiring and on-boarding Business Analysts and ensuring adequate resource and talent allocation.
* Take the analysis lead on high profile strategic and complex projects.
* Act as quality assurance for business analysis team output; ensuring that the team adhere to the standard methodologies in the business analysis function.
* Devise and own the analysis approach to projects, specifying the methods and techniques most appropriate to the situation at hand.
* Assist and coach junior members of staff to conduct business analysis activities by providing direction and guidance.
* Advise and develop the BA team to utilise industry best practise methodologies and to gain appropriate BA qualifications (develop BA competency framework and career development path).
* Be an ambassador for the Business Analysis function within the organisation.

Key skills/knowledge/qualifications/experience Skills

* Proven line management experience in a senior BA position, ideally running a BA capability/function.
* Extensive experience of establishing and maintaining standards and defining best practice.
* Personable demeanour with gravitas to liaise with senior management and end users at any level using a collegiate approach.
* Experience of leading and managing a BA team on a variety of large-scale projects.
* Extensive breadth and depth of knowledge of multiple business analysis methodologies including but not limited to use cases, user stories, JAD/JAR, basic UX/UI design, interface design, data modelling.
* Significant and extensive experience of successful business process re-design, analysis, definition and documentation including demonstrable experience of standard modelling notation – BPMN, EPC, UML.
* Strong technical knowledge of end-to-end provision of IT services (while specific technical knowledge is not required, ability to see the end to end customer journey and understand the technical interlinking of components (including in-life service) is necessary).
* Experience of creating an environment that encourages information sharing, team-based resolutions, cross-training, and process improvement within the department or area managed to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and service excellence.
* Background and understanding of regulatory environments is an advantage, but is not a prerequisite.

Qualifications

* Degree, or equivalent level of experience.
* Relevant Business Analysis qualification e.g. BCS Business Analysis Diploma or CBAP/CBATL certified.
* Association for Project Management (APM), Project Management Institute (PMI) or Chartered Management Institute (CMI), Prince2 certified a bonus.
