Senior Mechanical Engineer

The ONE Group have an exciting opportunity to join a leading global technology company, that are committed to providing world-class solutions around Power Electronics & Motor Drives.
Operating out of a business that this company own in Cambridge, you will be joining a newly created Centre of Excellence for Power Electronics. You will take the principle role in all mechanical activities around the design and development of custom VFD’s used within a range of water applications.

Key Responsibilities

This role will take a lead in all Mechanical Engineering activities, focused on design and design of thermal management of power electronic products. This role will look at challenging customer requirements around thermal management of power electronics sub-assemblies within a complete product.

This person will take ownership for all thermal distribution concepts, validations and proposals, considering implications of final product requirements, manufacturing, lifetime and cost factors. On completion of design, this person will hand over to the customers design team and assist them with final integration within their product.

• Create Novel technology ideas, related to Thermal Management and packaging of power electronics designs
• Own CAD designs with necessary decisions considered
• Detailed designs and detailed analysis
• Constant vibration applications design
• Thermal, stress, fatigue, lifetime and manufacturability design
• Aid integration of electronic motor drive designs within existing motors and pumps
• Utilise expert knowledge in moulding and casting technology
• Create and test prototypes
• Design of test rigs and jigs for assembly
• Small amounts of international travel where required
• This role will be heavily involved with the client’s offshore technology centre, thus international travel will be required throughout the recruitment and establishment phase

The Candidate

• An outstanding academic background (Degree level qualified 2.1 or above)
• 10+ years design and analysis experience
• Excellent CAD/FEA/Simulation skills (Solidworks/ProE/Creo/Ansys/Comsol)
• Experience design certain materials for certain manufacturing processes, injection moulding, casting, machining etc
• Able to work from first principal with excellent mathematical analysis skills
• Creative and innovative mindset, with solid hands on problem solving abilities
• Design for HV/High Currency
• Excellent management and coaching ability
