Senior Systems Administrator

Role Summary/Purpose of Job
The role will involve day to day management and monitoring of customer services and their supporting infrastructure components. The bespoke individual IT systems are managed using an ITIL Framework and you will be responsible for the investigation of arising issues, resolved against the defined Service Level Agreements.

Key Tasks
Linux Build, Management and Configuration
Responsible for defining, configuring, building and managing linux infrastructure components. A focus on monitoring, management and securing of new and existing platforms. Collaborating with other team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes. You will become an integral part of the team, making every problem of the platform a problem of your own, and solving them accordingly.

IT Security Analysis
Responsible for planning, reviewing and implementing infrastucture security measures and protective monitoring system to protect operating systems, networks and infrastructure components. Stay up-to-date on the latest intelligence, policy, process and governance and provide recommendation on security patching across the estate. Maintain key contacts within the organisation relating to IT Security for information sharing and security collaboration across the organisation. Responsible for log analysis with a forensic security and troubleshooting focus. Knowledge of security components, including firewalls, SIEM, IDS/IDP devices and their configuration and implementation. Knowledge around penetration testing and ethical hacking processes would be beneficial.

Capacity and Availability Management System
Full review of existing CAM system leading to identification of replacement solution supporting service availability, security and technical monitoring needs within the organisation. Design, plan and implement transition to full replacement system alongside implementation of protective monitoring solution. Ongoing support, development and maintenance of system and documentation following internal governance and procedures.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate:

Performs a broad range of work, sometimes complex and non-routine in a variety of environments but applies a methodical approach to problem definition and resolution. Understands and uses appropriate methods, tools and applications and demonstrates an analytical and systematic approach to problem solving.

Takes the initiative in identifying and negotiating appropriate personal development opportunities and demonstrates effective communication skills. Plans, schedules and monitors own work (and that of others where applicable) competently within limited deadlines and according to relevant legislation and procedures. Absorbs and applies technical information and works to required standards. Appreciates the wider field of information systems, and how own role relates to other roles and to the business of the employer or client. Probably educated to bachelor degree level or holds a relevant professional qualification.
