My client is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer based in Middlesbrough.

Main Duties:

Generation of machine and component designs which meet manufacturing, safety, CE, and customer performance requirements

Ensure documentation/drawing standards for equipment meets company requirements

Work closely with machine builders and equipment suppliers to ensure that the equipment is built according to customer requirements

Prepare all supporting documentation including BOMs, part numbers, manuals, and mechanical & electrical assembly drawings

Create and develop step-by-step manufacturing and assembly manuals for all products

Design and detailing of machine parts and assemblies using 3D (SolidWorks) and 2D (DraftSight) CAD

Sourcing and selection of standard machine components

Creation and maintenance of design documentation

Actively support all department goals and objectives

Support other departments with their understanding of project requirements

Occasionally attend site and liaise with customers to develop bespoke waste handling solutions

Maintenance of existing Alibre, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD drawings

Core requirements:

3 years industry experience in a similar role

Minimum 2:2 BEng(Hons) Mechanical Engineering/Industrial Engineering (or equivalent)

Fully proficient in SolidWorks, with expertise in:

Weldment assemblies

Sheet metal components

Generation of 2D manufacturing, assembly, and installation drawings

BOM generation and maintenance

Proficient in 2D DraftSight (or AutoCAD)

Experience using engineering calculations/theory to validate component selection/design

Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)

Detailed knowledge of machining and fabrication capabilities/limitations

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Excellent time management and attention to detail

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision

Ability to take sales-generated concepts and develop fully manufacturable CAD models/fabrication drawings

Technically knowledgeable and creative

Desirable requirements:

Practical experience with industrial hydraulics

Practical experience with industrial electrical control systems

Practical experience with sheet metal fabrication

Practical machine shop experience

Experience with large machinery design

Interview requirement:

Candidates will be required to complete a modelling task using SolidWorks

Candidates will be required to demonstrate a basic working knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts and their application in machine/component design

Salary £30,000 - £40,000
