They say Friday 13th is the day that brings bad luck.

Well... as somebody who likes to 'buck the trend' (for lack of a better phrase), I thought I would write a witty and (frankly awesome) job ad that might just bring you some good luck!

I am working in partnership with a global organisation in the financial services and banking space who are looking to recruit a pretty hybrid candidate - i.e. a Lead Business Analyst with a strong technical background. The position will be based our of their tech HQ in Knutsford and will be on-site with no travel required. For anyone living further away, they do offer home working and flexible working hours so don't let rural Knutsford put you off!

This position itself is a newly-released role and is part of a huge 2018 recruitment drive, strategically crucial and therefore a priority for the organisation over the next few weeks. It is purely based on growth and they are basically looking for somebody who can come in and hit the ground running.

In a nutshell, I am looking for a strong and Senior/Lead Business Analyst who has a strong technical background, ideally from either a software testing or software engineering environment, with a pinch of delivery mixed in (sorry for the salt-related analogy).

The reason?

Simple... your role will involve liaising with technical stakeholders on a daily basis so it is crucial that you are able to engage with said stakeholders throughout the duration of the delivery lifecycle no matter how 'techy' those conversations end up becoming. In terms of the wider responsibilities, rather than simply regurgitate the JD, I have included a summary of the key focus areas below:

Business Analysis - Fundamentally, this role will involve gathering requirements and operating as a Lead BA throughout the duration of the delivery lifecycle. A strong BA skillset and an understanding as to how a BA adds value throughout a project is therefore a crucial part of this role.

Technical Background - An absolutely crucial element to this role is having that technical background, ideally as either a software engineer or software tester. I am not looking for somebody from a purely business-focused background; rather, the key requirement is somebody who understands programming/coding (either from a .NET, Java or C++ background) and is able to work closely with developers/architects.

Methodologies & Processes - I will start by saying this organisation is not 'pure Agile' (I mean, who is these days?). Rather, they use Agile as and when they can but sometimes need to adopt a Waterfall approach. They are therefore ideally looking for somebody with exposure to a range of delivery methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, PRINCE2) and an understanding as to how to pick and choose which one best suits the project. Wider exposure to processes such as DevOps, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment is also an important factor.

Stakeholder Management - As a Lead Business Analyst, stakeholder management is a given and this role will be extremely stakeholder-facing. You will be expected to engage with both UK-based stakeholders as well as stakeholders in India and the US, so excellent communication skills and a proven track record both influencing and managing stakeholder expectations is therefore crucial to be considered for this role.

So there you have it... a bit of a hybrid role but hopefully something that gets you in the mood to click apply. If it does... then you can apply by doing the following:

You can call me on either or . Alternatively, you can send me an email to or search for 'Liam Haghighat' on LinkedIn (I am pretty easy to find!).

Anything discussed will remain completely confidential.
