Purpose of Role

To help create and launch our brand new forecasting and Big Data R&D platform and the products and services that we will deliver from this platform for both external and internal clients.

Deliver solid solutions to the business and its clients at pace and in an iterative manner - using Agile SCRUM and effectively working in self-organising cross functional sprint teams.

Help design and develop new full stack solutions and micro services using technologies such as (but not exclusively) .NET Core, C#, Node.js. Vue.js, Entity Framework, Java, Python, PHP, REST, SQL Server and MySQL. Having some knowledge or an interest in R, Hadoop, Spark and Hive would be very useful too (but not essential).

We are after an individual who:-

  • Has the proven know how on delivering solid solutions to the business and its clients at pace and in an interactive manner - using Agile SCRUM and effectively working in self-organising cross functional sprint teams.

  • possess the knowledge on how best to deliver secure and performant solutions to the business - whether to buy, integrate or build.

  • keeps things simple, structured, and consistent by adopting the simplest frameworks and ensuring best practices are baked-in from the start.

  • can immediately focus on building solutions for our clients rather than spending any time trying to figure out how to actually do it and which frameworks to use/adopt.

  • has a good understanding of DevOps, who has a clear understanding of CI, CD and Application monitoring, and what tools to use - and from the get go incorporates this "way of working" into everything they and the team do.

We want to ensure we build in a manner that fully decouples the tools and services in our ecosystem by building components, microservices, and serverless functions too.

You will be working alongside more traditional experienced BI and Web developers, Data Engineers and our Data Science team, therefore you will need excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others.

This role offers flexibility as you will be encouraged to drive innovation in the company through ideas, enhancements, and new technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build Technical Solutions for our External and Internal customers

  • Design & develop new projects, and integrations with existing systems

  • Understand business requirements and refine into development tasks and estimate their complexity

  • Research, evaluate and adopt new technologies with a right tool for the job mentality

  • Prototype, fail rapidly and iterate.

  • Focus on both speed of delivery and quality, with suitable pragmatism

  • Progression of projects from prototype to post-production stage

  • Communication and presentation of ideas to colleagues in all parts of the wider business

  • Take responsibility for areas of the system
  • Take part in Peer & code reviews - adopt best practices and design patterns
  • Support the implementation of a DevOps mentality across the tech team

Technical Skills

90% Software Engineering - Technical Advancements and Development

10% Project Management

  • Ability to quickly implement robust and scalable tools and services.

  • Being a super productive engineer.

  • Good knowledge of best practices and modern day design patterns, including Micro Services, ORM, Serverless Functions, RESTful APIs

  • Good working knowledge of a good proportion of these languages, frameworks and data stores: .NET Core, C#, ASP, MVC, Vue.js, Node.js, CSS, HTML5, Entity Framework, PHP, MySQL, SQL Server, Stored Procedures, T-SQL, Java, Python, Swagger

  • Good knowledge of Agile SCRUM - have some experience of XP and TDD development methodologies

  • Solid knowledge around DevOps - particularly Continuous Integration, auto-build and auto-deployment technologies - like Bamboo, Jenkins, Octopus, or similar. You may have also used application monitoring solutions like New Relic or Log tech like Splunk to proactively improve the UX of the applications you have built

  • Solid knowledge on Unit Testing and Automated Testing and successful implementation of this.

  • You have experimented with AWS and Azure functions, admin and APIs

  • You have experimented with Docker, Containers and are familiar with Kubernete

This role can be based either in our Woking or Canary Wharf office and offers a competitive salary, plus bonus and benefits.
