Games Server / Backend Software Engineer - Node.js, JavaScript, NoSQL - Games studio Central London This small mobile Games studio is making some of the most successful genre-leading games for tablets and mobile devices. On the back of more than 50 million downloads and substantial financial backing such growth has led to this brand new opening for a mid-level Backend Software Engineer to join their small, world class engineering team of mobile and social games experts. The successful Software Engineer will create highly scalable backend code for fun and engaging games. Working within a tiny Server team you will work in all phases of the SDLC - to develop and maintain games, game features, and any development tools required - with a focus on efficient and iterative coding. Responsibilities: Write test-driven, clean and maintainable code in JavaScript for the Node.js runtime Implement features in a way that is performant and will scale well with increased volume and concurrency of users Monitor, debug and quickly resolve server and database issues on games in production Create tools and shared libraries to streamline development, in other languages where required (e.g. Java) Be part of an expert engineering team with a coherent development approach and high level of technical quality Requirements: Excellent understanding of programming best practices and data-driven design Software craftsperson with a diligent programming mentality and zero tolerance for bugs Experience working with databases - particularly NoSQL databases, eg MongoDB Experience writing automated software tests and writing testable code Passion for developing popular games with high production values Self-driven and excels at completing tasks in a minimally supervised environment Able to communicate ideas from abstract game features to complex technical designs Comfortable working in a small team on high impact features Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or a related subject Nice-to-haves: JavaScript devotee aware of current ecosystem and upcoming changes Experience managing MongoDB clusters in a production environment Knowledge of commonly used web security techniques Experience developing real-time client-server applications Designed, written, deployed, debugged and maintained web services with 100k+ DAU DevOp with experience of cloud platforms such as AWS, Heroku, MongoDB Atlas Git aficionado
