Are you completing your PGCE this term?

Do you want solid SEN Primary experience before committing to your first teaching role?

Is a teaching assistant role in an Outstanding school a good springboard for your career?

The school

This is an SEN school near Hall Green. Students have a range of special needs including profound and multiple needs and most are on the Autistic Spectrum. A broad range of students have communication difficulties and use British Sign Language and Makaton to communicate. This school is a medium sized school with a well experienced and skilled team in place and good funding. The leadership team are focusing funds on individual and small group support, play, music and sensory therapy and enhanced learning support. The school is looking to put in place more teaching assistants to provide dedicated support for students with Autism and those with communication difficulties. The leadership team are putting excellent plans in place to develop the school and improve areas that have not been able to have the concentration required; recruiting outstanding PGCE graduates who want to gain more SEN classroom experience as a teaching assistant before their first teaching role, is one of the ways they hope to meet these aims.

The role

As a PGCE graduate, you will be working with a number of students on a 1:1 and small group basis. Other students in the class have communication difficulties and you will help them with specific lessons through various forms of communication. Your focus will be to support the teacher in delivering lesson plans and gaining as much success and development for these students as possible. You will work as a teaching assistant communicating regularly with the educational psychology department and providing input about your students’ development. Where needed, you will provide support to other students when group work is undertaken.

The candidate

You are a PGCE graduate looking to get into teaching. You want to gain some extra valuable SEN Primary classroom based experience. You already have some experience, paid or voluntary in Primary or preferable special education needs environments. You have an understanding of the needs and challenges young people face with learning and developing skills and have the aptitude to support and lead students in their learning. You already have knowledge and experience in British Sign Language or are interested in and able to learn and develop these skills quickly and effectively. Your PGCE and experience so far has opened up your understanding of students with Autism and those with communication difficulties and you can demonstrate how and where you have contributed to the positive development of students and teams. Your experience to date and your degree puts you in a great position to prove you have something to contribute to a school with huge potential and high ambitions and your high standards and education are exactly what this class needs. You are confident and can demonstrate and ability to work independently and implement plans and instruction with accuracy, dedication and compassion.

If you want to be a part of this fun and dynamic school and be a part of a strong tightly knit team contact Anthony McClellan with your CV.
