Motor Vehicle Engineer (office based)
Due to ongoing expansion, a leading insurance business is looking to recruit a Motor Vehicle Engineer to provide engineering expertise to their motor claims department.
This is an exciting and rare opportunity for an experienced motor engineer/ damage assessor to advance their career in a professional office-based environment.
Role focus:
  • Correct use of repair methodology
  • Repair cost control
  • Validation of vehicle damage in line with incident circumstances and policy cover
Key Responsibilities:
  • Reviewing estimates and images for repair, agreeing repair methods and negotiating costs
  • Reviewing external engineers reports, resolving valuation disputes and provide technical advice
  • Liaise with Repairers/Policyholders/Third Parties or their representatives as appropriate
  • Provide technical advice and support to other areas of the business
  • Identifying discrepancies with accident damage and incident circumstances to identify potentially exaggerated or fraudulent claims
  • Maintain a professional image of the company
  • Excellent customer service through strong internal and external relations
Key Desirables:
  • Knowledge of Audatex & Thatcham Escribe
  • Working background in the motor vehicle body repair industry
  • Working knowledge of private car and light commercial vehicles is essential
  • Some knowledge of HGV’s, Coaches, Agricultural plant and machinery is desirable but not essential
  • Experience of carrying out physical and desktop inspections / assessments
  • Time management skills
  • Experience of working in a targeted environment
  • Focus on providing an excellent customer service and experience
Desired Qualifications (current or historic):
  • ATA VDA
  • Eng Tech
  • City & Guilds or NVQ (Motor Vehicles)
  • Membership of IAEA
  • Membership of IMI
Accountabilities:
  • Deal with estimates, images, referrals, post and telephone calls within agreed Service Levels
  • Ensure that manual and computer records are accurate and reflecting any changes made in a clear precise manner, including changes in claim estimates
  • Ensure that referral procedures are strictly followed
  • Ensure that all matters are handled in accordance with instructions laid down in the Claims Handling Manual and amendments issued to it
  • Be aware of and act upon all compliance matters e.g. TCF, Data Protection, Money laundering etc.
  • Support compliance with Lloyd’s and PRA regulations
  • Support Health & Safety through highlighting issues
