Birtley Distribution Centre (North East)

At the Co-op we believe in putting our customers, colleagues and communities at the heart of everything we do. We encourage our teams to share ideas to help us improve the way we work. Standing at 260,000 sq. ft. and delivering to 300 Co-op food stores across the region and with 400 core staff and an estimated annual Budget of £24 million, Birtley plays a major role in keeping our customers happy. Now we're looking to recruit a finance analyst to join us, and help us keep this well-oiled machine running smoothly.

Reporting into the finance manager in what is a role focussed heavily on the data, we'll look for you to encourage continuous improvement and look into previous processes. We want you to make a difference as you develop positive working relationships across Birtley and the wider depot network. On a weekly basis, you'll analyse the financial performance of the depot, providing insight to managers and helping to inform decision making. As a key payroll contact at the depot, you'll also help support queries and advise on time management for 400 depot colleagues.

What you'll do:
* assist the finance manager in producing accurate management reports, accounts, budgets, forecasts and submissions for local team and support centre
* produce weekly and periodic analysis of the financial performance of the depot
* provide insight to management and help with decision making
* deliver against objectives, including weekly planning of own workload
* develop working relationships across Birtley depot and the wider sites across the UK
* analyse large data sets, including critical metrics, costs, productivity and budgets
* be a key payroll contact at the depot, resolving and advising on ad-hoc queries as well as running reports to constantly monitor accuracy of payroll input

To get going quickly in this role, you'll need to be highly proficient on Microsoft Office, especially in Excel where you will be competent in using and designing spreadsheets including complex formulae. To allow you to be able to analyse information easily, you'll need experience in a similar role where you have had exposure to preparing accounts and budgets. As managers will really value your input into continuously improving process, you'll need to be a very strong communicator and have examples of where you've managed those relationships.

We'd love to talk to you if:
* you're highly proficient on Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
* you're not afraid of change and can adapt to a fast-moving work environment
* you've got previous experience in a similar role, specialising in accounting and/or payroll
* you're analytical and have experience providing in-depth insight using large and varied data sets
* you can communicate at all levels and be able to engage with internal and external business partners
* you can lead and plan your own work and work to tight deadlines
* you're ideally minimum AAT qualified and already studying towards CIMA/ACCA/ACA, or passionate about studying for this
* you've preferably had some exposure to Kronos and/or IBM Cognos
* you have ideally worked in a similar type of large scale logistics operation (warehouse and transport) but again this is not essential

Why Co-op?

When you join the Co-op you'll become part of an organisation where principles are just as important as profits. You'll also get a competitive salary, 28 days holiday, an annual incentive scheme, discounts on all kinds of products and services, and a pension with up to 10% employer contributions.

We're actively building diverse teams and welcome applications from everyone. But we know that simply having a diverse workforce is not enough. We want to create an inclusive environment, where everyone can contribute their best work and develop to their full potential. We celebrate our differences, and recognise the importance of teams reflecting the communities they serve.

We can make reasonable adjustments to our interview process according to your needs. And we offer a flexible working environment, enabling our colleagues to adjust their hours to accommodate personal circumstances. You can find out more about our Co-op people policies at coop.co.uk/peoplepolicies.
