Lead Software Engineer. This role is based at our clients offices in Bristol BS8 so commutable from Newport , Gloucester , Bridgwater , Bath or Swindon . They are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Lead Software Engineer to join their Software Development Team ( Bristol office ) ! Ideally you will perhaps led or mentored a team before with Agile experience and ability to lead the Scrum .

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and exciting department in an expanding , award winning business . They have retail shops / trade counters , warehouses spanning the UK and Netherlands and throughout Europe and beyond with lots more plans in action for future growth .

They have grown from a startup with a couple of people in 2003 to employing over 2500 in 2017.

From an IT perspective they are unique. All the software that runs the company is developed and maintained in-house. Using open-source technologies, everything from their consumer website, shop tills, to warehouse stock control has been created from the ground up.

The IT team currently totals 30 people spanning software development, system administration and technical support. the head office is in Bridgwater Somerset and they also have an IT presence in their European Netherlands office but this role is based in the new Bristol office .

Role Purpose: You will play a key role in the building, developing, testing and maintaining our retail clients core business systems, whilst providing first line leadership to a team of Software Engineers.Helping the business become more efficient and enhance the customer service offering, through the continuous development of our website, extranet business system, EPOS sales systems and stock management systems.

Team Management: Responsible for a small team of Software Engineers

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

?Scope solutions for the business system in line with business requirements.

?Build efficient programs and systems that serve user needs.

?Test software products to ensure strong functionality and optimisation.

?Integrate software components and third-party programs where required.

?Maintain, support and improve the performance of existing software.

?Participate in peer code reviews.

?Create technical documentation for reference.

?Work closely with IT Management to ensure all software development is aligned with Company objectives.

?Provide ‘on the job’ advice and guidance to a team of Software Engineers.

?Communicate and feedback progress to the development team, project management and other relevant stakeholders.

?Conduct regular appraisals and personal development reviews as required.

?Support the recruitment and induction of new team members.

?Attend and ensure all contribute effectively to Scrum ceremonies.

Required skills and experience:

?Knowledge and experience of PHP, Laravel, PHPUnit, MySQL, and Git.

?Linux/UNIX experience.

?Previous experience working in an Agile development environment.

?Excellent organisational and time management skills.

?Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

?A logical, analytical and creative approach to problems.

?Accuracy and attention to detail.

?Flexible and willing to accept a change in priorities as necessary.

?An understanding of the latest trends and their role in a commercial environment.

?Self-development skills to keep up to date with new technologies.

Desirable skills and experience:

?Knowledge and experience of MVC/MVP frameworks, NoSQL (MongoDB, Elastic, Solr), Javascript (React, Vue.js)

?Proficient in SQL (advanced queries, prepared statements, triggers etc)

?Experience of continuous integration (Jenkins).

?Previous leadership, coaching or mentoring experience.

?Experience working with retail or warehousing/distribution systems.

?Experience using Jira.
