Data Privacy/Protection Officer: Job Specification

Reports to: Group Technology Director

Summary of Role

Friday Media Group runs a large number of market leading Buy & Sell (classified ad) websites, recruitment boards and ecommerce businesses. Your role as Data Privacy/Protection Officer will see you take responsibility for the governance of data control within the organisation, ensuring compliance in line with relevant legislation and encouraging best practice across the group for all data touchpoints. Working closely with HR, Product and the Project Delivery teams, you will manage how Friday Media Group controls and processes the constant flow of data it comes into contact with on a daily basis.

As the Data Privacy/Protection Officer (DPO) you will develop and implement our privacy/data protection framework across our group of businesses, within the UK, Europe and US, as well as ensure compliance in line with GDPR. You will own the remit for designing, developing and implementing organisational guidelines and strategies to protect all personal information.

Role Responsibilities:

Helping to design and implement necessary data protection policies, standards, procedures and guidelines

Outlining and maintaining the Privacy & Data Protection Standards

Working in close collaboration with IT security team to ensure all systems meet security needs

Providing policy advice and guidance as well as necessary training to all areas of the business in relation to data privacy

Work with key departments within the business to work through and provide practical solutions to data protection issues that affect them

Ongoing evaluation of the company’s data processing activities

Participate in meetings with key departments to ensure privacy by design at all levels

Ensure we address all queries from data subjects within legal timeframes (e.g. managing ‘right to be forgotten’ requests)

Liaise with other/third party organisations that process data on our behalf

Perform audits and determine whether we need to alter our procedures to comply with regulations

Arrange for training on GDPR compliance for employees as necessary

Chair a GDPR steering committee within the group to aid governance and adoption of best practice data controls across all teams and departments

Role Requirements:

Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion

Experience in data protection and legal compliance, with relevant qualifications required to support the role

Solid knowledge of GDPR and national data protection laws

Knowledge of data processing operations in the digital sector is preferrable

Ability to handle confidential information

Ethical, with the ability to remain impartial and report all noncompliances

Excellent communication and organisation skills

Proactive in handling complex situations, negotiations and problems

Influential and proactive, ensuring to lead by example
