Mechanical Design Engineer
Location :Swansea, South Wales
Salary :£30,000 - £35,000 per annum depending on experience and qualifications
Duration :Permanent (37 Hours a week)

A well-established manufacturing company in Swansea has an immediate position available for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its experienced office engineering team. This rapidly expanding company manufactures bespoke pressure vessels and heat exchangers for British and foreign customers in the oil, gas and petro-chemical industries.
Working within the engineering team, the mechanical design engineer will be responsible for taking control of multiple projects for various types of pressure equipment, from order stage through to completion, carrying out the following responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:·Interpret customer design requirements from data sheets, drawings and specifications.·Occasionally visit customer sites for visual/dimensional surveys or meetings.·Prepare detailed fabrication drawings using 2D AutoCAD or 3D solidworks software.·Produce mechanical design calculations using Finglow design software, design spreadsheets or hand calculations in conformity with international design codes and customer specifications.·Produce quality control documentation for workshop inspection activities.·Procurement of materials and sub-contractor services.·Control project budget.·Liaise with customers, inspectors and third party personnel.·Work in partnership with office engineering staff and workshop supervisors.·Monitor project progress to ensure customer delivery dates are met.·Assist company estimators with design checks for pressure equipment.
Candidate Requirements:Experience of working in a similar role for a manufacturing company fabricating machined or welded components.Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings.Must be competent in the use of AutoCAD (2D) or Solidworks (3D) design software as well as Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to use Microsoft project would be helpful.Highly motivated with strong communication, organisation and multi-tasking skills.Qualified to Degree level in engineering.Experience of producing design calculations and controlling engineering projects would be beneficial.Experience of pressure retaining equipment, specifically heat exchangers and pressure vessels as well as knowledge of ASME and PD5500 design codes would be beneficial.
