My client, an industry leading aerospace company, are currently searching for a Lead Engineer to join their team in Tewkesbury on a permanent basis.

General Characteristics
Responsible for leading complex technical assignments or engineering programmes acting as the engineering focal in support of design and analysis activities as part of a multidisciplinary project team with responsibility for the end results.

As a Lead Engineer, the incumbent will have up to 5 direct reports for which they will provide administrative supervision and oversee work, in parallel with senior engineer abilities and accountabilities.

As a Senior Engineer, the incumbent shall be technically focussed, and tend to specialise either professionally in areas of competence (hydraulic, mechanical, etc.) or functionally (eg design / stress) and provide professional support or analysis to the product development function.

Representative Activities
* Acts as the technical engineering focal for a programme or project with direct customer contact.
* Participates in defining engineering approaches, and in planning and scheduling work.
* Ensures successful completion of the assigned project phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints
* Directs and supports preparation of appropriate documentation (including drawings & reports) for assigned projects.
* Provides technical leadership to a small group of temporarily assigned engineers and technicians, planning and supervising their work to accomplish specific engineering projects.
* Directs work assignments, scheduling, and reviews of work in progress.
* Handles personnel actions including performance reviews, and coordination of training and development.
* Reviews technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems.
* Personally helps to solve / owns difficult technical problems.
* Recommends modifications to standard procedures.
* Assures adequate documentation and reporting of procedures and test results.
* May also work as an individual contributor as needed.
* Provides input into one or more phases of new product development: design, testing, creation, marketing and introducing to market.
* Liaises with specialist departments to ensure the effective operation and production of new/revised products.

Parameters/skills specific to the role:
1. Excellent inter-personal and communication skills that will enable strong collaboration and coordination between the laboratory staff, engineering teams, site services and management. Will include a broad range of communication means including informal (e.g. verbal, e-mail, etc.) and formal (e.g. reports, presentations, etc.).
2. Strong, hands-on, testing skills (e.g. vibration, pressure impulse, thermal, endurance, hydromechanics, test control and data acquisition).
3. Good leadership skills
4. Good project planning and management skills
5. Good familiarity with the Health and Safety hazards and the risk assessment process
6. Awareness of common machining processes (Milling, turning, grinding etc.)
