Mott MacDonald has been significantly enhancing its ecological consultancy capabilities and the ecology team now has a wealth of biodiversity skills and competencies. Our nationwide team of over 20+ experienced ecologists has excellent knowledge and practical experience in delivering projects which integrate the importance of the ecological impacts and mitigations.

We now have a vacancy to work within a team of ecologists undertaking a range of activities, including watching briefs, protected species surveys, mitigations works and reporting. The team has experience in surveying and evaluating the range of UK habitats, as well as holding licenses to work with protected species.

We have core skills in botany, aquatic invertebrates, aquatic macrophytes, amphibians, mammals and reptiles, with a strong track record of working in the water, power and highways industries. We offer a complete ecological assessment service to facilitate project delivery through meeting regulatory requirements, pushing forward best practice from project inception through to construction, operation and decommissioning both in the UK and overseas.

Be part of a multi-disciplinary team

You will work within a multi-disciplinary team on a wide range of projects across multiple sectors (power, transport, water, urban development). You will be part of a dynamic ecology practice who work collaboratively to deliver ecological support, working together to ensure the development of its members.

This role will suit an outgoing individual who wants to be part of a growth business in this specialist area and help support delivery of ecological consultancy and mitigation works in a fast moving, client focused commercial environment.

Work on a range of projects

You will be office based however there will be a requirement to undertake site surveys and attend client meetings. In addition, there may be a need for general ecological support to a range of projects within an environmental team, working closely with other disciplines to ensure ecological objectives for projects are delivered successfully, within budget and to programme.

Your experience should be a good mixture of the following:

* Degree in ecology/ biology or directly related subject (minimum of 2.1 classification)
* Experience of obtaining a variety of protected species licences and liaising with regulatory bodies to negotiate and obtain consents
* Relevant experience connected with major infrastructure schemes
* Relevant consultancy experience
* Strong report writing skills, attention to detail and ability to write concise reports
* Experience in developing scope of work for environmental studies including ESIA and EIA, IFC guidelines and similar assessments
* Experience in planning, assisting and delivering surveys to fulfil project requirements related to EIA, HRA etc.
* Experience in preparation and writing ecological sections of environmental impact assessments ensuring that legislative guidelines are met
* Full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork in the UK and overseas
