Our Metros and Civils division (a sub-division of Transportation) manages and delivers projects for major below ground civil projects and is recognised as authoritative and cutting edge. We specialise in all aspects of foundations, geotechnics and tunnelling and contribute to some of the largest and most demanding structures in the world. These projects include major London based projects such as East London Line, Victoria Station Upgrade, Northern Line Extension and Thames Tideway. International projects include Budapest Metro, Dublin Interconnector, Doha Metro and a number of hydropower schemes in Georgia, Albania and Zambia. We have a wide area of expertise including value management, value engineering, geotechnical advice, geotechnical information management, site investigations, rock engineering, slope engineering, coastal engineering and environmental geotechnics. Supporting our civil design capability, we have specialist engineering geology, numerical modelling, seismic and hydrogeology expertise within the division.

Will you provide your input to our ground engineering team?

We are looking for Engineering geologists to provide ground engineering input at all project stages. This can include feasibility studies through to design to construction supervision. You will join an established team in Croydon to assist in the management and delivery of geotechnical projects while supporting the engineering geology resource team.

What will you be doing each day?

Input

You’ll be providing geological soil and rock engineering input for a range of geotechnical design areas including foundations, slope stability assessment, earthworks, reinforced earth structures, tunnels, road pavements and railway track-beds. You will also provide input to soil and rock mechanics analysis.

Projects

You will be involved in a variety of project work including the planning, procedure, supervision and reporting on ground investigation projects to the requirements of EC7. Being an established engineer, you’re the kind of person who’s happy to assist more junior members of the team in projects and even take on project management responsibilities (including budgeting and cost control) when required liaising with external clients.

Documentation

Documentation will be a vital part of your role where you will be involved in preparing desk studies, preparing technical reports and even classifying and documenting rock masses.

Have you got what it takes?

You’re the kind of person who’s gained a wealth of knowledge and engineering geology experience of the UK ground engineering sector including its standards, contract conditions and specifications. You’ve got a good grasp on geotechnical design requirements and implications of Eurocodes and have solid project management exposure including financial control.

You’ll need to have:

* A degree in Engineering Geology, Ground Engineering or similar (MSc desirable)
* Experience of designing, procuring, supervising and interpreting ground investigations
* Self-sufficiency and the ability to work autonomously in project work

Ideally you will already be chartered with a recognised UK professional organisation however if you are close to obtaining your chartership status this will be sufficient. Additionally you will have a full driving licence for any offsite travel.
