PR19848 - Deputy Charge Nurse
Loirston Ward is a 12 bedded female ward providing care for women with progressing dementia and associated symptoms of stress and distress which are frequently expressed as aggressive or otherwise disturbed behaviour such as excessive vocalisation, physical aggression or continuous movement around the unit.
Loirston is part of the specialist dementia units within the older adults directorate at Royal Cornhill Hospital.
Applicants should demonstrate awareness of current research in Dementia Care, current Political drivers and the use of Therapeutic Psychological and Behavioural approaches and be willing to adapt to the ever changing needs of the Old Age Psychiatry service
The successful candidate should be motivated, demonstrate a commitment towards participation in the continued development of patient focused care whilst fostering a therapeutic ward environment. This position would suit those that wish to be part of an evolving service that recognises the diverse and complex needs of the elderly and their carers.
You will be expected to provide high quality evidence-based care and support to clients who experience progressive dementia and associated symptoms of stress and distress. The post is 37.5hrs per week over an 8 week period, covering day, night rotation and weekends.
The candidate should have good inter –personal skills and the ability to work within a team. Good communication skills are particularly important and a desire to work with older adults suffering from progressive dementia. The role incorporates being a named nurse for a small group of patients and building up solid relationships with patients and their next of kin.
