Westray Recruitment Consultants has the pleasure of working with an international Electronics Manufacturer based in Newcastle. We are searching for a Mechanical Design Engineer to provide full mechanically engineered design solutions for mechanical parts associated with all allocated projects. The successful candidate will have a HNC or an ONC in Mechanical Engineering and a strong back in the mechanical design of complete machinery.


- Liaise with the Engineering Implementation Manager to develop mechanical design concepts for all projects.
- Provide all manufacturing drawings, including sub assembly and general arrangement drawings
- Understand the basic constraints for EMC, Power Flow, Vibration, Shock, Thermal Performance, Maintenance and Access requirements in order to assist in the development of mechanical assembly concepts for each project.
- Follow department and company quality processes (ISO9001).
- Monitor the progress of all undertaken mechanical design by holding regular design reviews.
- Aim to speed up product introduction and reduce the cost of change.
- Liaise with subcontract FEA providers used for analysis specific to allocated projects.
- Ensure mechanical design solutions are viable and cost effective.
- Consider at every opportunity cost reductions and design improvements.
- The generation and maintenance of BOM`s using the companies MRP system.
- Create schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and wiring schedules.
- Liaise with operational departments to identify and release production information specific to projects.
- Complete maintenance of all legacy drawing office records.
- Actively follow the Company`s Health and Safety Policy, Procedures and safe systems of work.


- HNC / ONC Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience of mechanical design of complete machinery, fabrications and assemblies in an engineering focused company.
- An understanding of electrical component placing and the appreciation of health and safety and cable/busbar routing taking into consideration the build/access processes for manufacturing product.
- Ideally experience within one or more of the following industries; Rail, Rotating Machinery, Energy and/or Industrial Power Products.
- A strong user of 3D CAD data with the ability to transfer this into 2D drawing packs and in a standard format.
- A strong communicator who can work with minimum supervision to agreed timescales.
- An innovative approach to mechanical design
- Demonstrable mechanical engineering knowledge.
- Attention to detail and the ability to complete fully assigned tasks.
- A record of cost savings and making improvements within the design of products.
- The ability to work with Suppliers and Customers to understand requirements.
- Competent user of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.


This is a permanent role based in Gateshead.
