SUITABLE FOR MSC / PHD STUDENTS

OLED / LCD / LED / SEMICONDUCTORS / OPTOELECTRONICS / III-V

BASED NORTH EAST ENGLAND – SEDGEFIELD - £30-50,000 AND BENEFITS

Headquartered in Manchester and with process, R+D and test support in Sedgefield North East England, ESS’ client delivers world class 'organic' semiconductor materials for the manufacture of flexible displays and electronics for use in applications such as smartwatches, smartphones and tablets. The company provides customised solutions involving molecule synthesis, formulation, pre-production prototyping and technology transfer for market-driven applications.

Their R+D, Product and Process Applications teams are based in the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) in Sedgefield, and they now need to recruit a Device Engineer. This will suit an experienced Engineer or a Masters/PhD student looking to get into a private sector role.

Reporting into the Process Engineering Manager, the Device Engineer will support the demonstration of organic semiconductor materials in OLED thin film transistors (oTFTs) test devices and demonstrator vehicles. Other core responsibilities will include:

Definition, development and delivery of test structures, test data analysis and failure mode effect and analysis (FMEA) of oTFT test devices and demonstrator vehicles.
Development of datasets suitable for circuit models.
Working with circuit designers to improve datasets (both electrical and physical data) for parameter extraction.
Working with CPI engineers to improve existing and develop new test & FMEA techniques in a collaborative but IP sensitive environment.
Working with materials, process & test engineering teams to develop and improve device parametric and reliability test data.
Reporting progress on device performance and issues within a project environment to external and internal customers.
Working with customers to demonstrate and transfer device test and analysis data both in the UK and potentially at customer facilities in Asia.
Contributing to technology transfer documentation and data packages to support materials sales and customer focussed process development.
The successful candidate is educated to degree calibre (MSC or PHD preferred), and will have previous device test and parametric data extraction experience. Design of oTFT devices and test structures relevant for oTFT device and process characterisation, and organic electronic device failure mode and analysis experience would be a distinct advantage. Candidates will have experience of using relevant surface science and metrology tools for failure mode analysis of organic devices including optical microscopy & SEM.

This is a superb opportunity to join a highly ambitious and forward thinking SME technology business totally changing how we will see things in the future. You can expect and excellent base salary (£30-50,000 dependent on experience), plus a comprehensive benefits package including equity/share ownership.
