Requirements / V&V Engineer , based Derby, 6 month plus contract, to start asap £neg

Experienced Requirements / V&V Engineer required to support the integration and testing of the On-board Signalling Systems for major rail vehicle project.

As a Signalling V&V Engineer in Signalling Integration Team, your principal task will be to verify and validate Signalling Product against the relevant standards and project requirements. This position reports to our Signalling Integration & Test Manager and is based in Derby.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Review test procedures: review the content of test cases and procedures developed to test and prove signalling subsystem behaviour against their input specifications and product standards;
2. Identify gaps in V&V: Identify gaps in verification approach and work with Integration & Test Engineers to develop new test procedures;
3. Capture test results: Work closely with Integration & Test Engineers to capture accurate results from system testing
4. Perform compliance assessments: Perform compliance assessments against signalling standards and project specific requirements. Includes preparation of compliance matrixes;
5. Prepare test reports: Preparation of test reports for use by design assurance teams.

Essential Experience:
1. Highly experienced in the use of IBM DOORS to build and maintain a database for capture of V&V Evidence and Compliance Assessments;
2. Experienced in the V&V of complex software intensive control systems. Railway experience is preferred but applications are welcomed from individuals who have worked within defence, aerospace and automotive sectors on systems concerned with ensuring the safe movement of people and goods;
3. Applicants will have a good computer science, electrical engineering degree (or have gained equivalent experience working with various computer based / automation technologies). Minimum HNC in a related engineering discipline;
4. Proven experience in software testing / development and use of results to form compliance arguments;
5. Strong analytical & problem solving skills with a learning mind-set, must be comfortable stretching into areas beyond existing skillsets;
6. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a multi-national team. Excellent standard of English, both written and verbal.

Desirable Experience:
1. A good knowledge of modern on-board signalling systems such as CBTC & ETCS but also knowledge of legacy / conventional systems such as AWS/TPWS;
2. Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the functional working of these systems and their interactions with other subsystems e.g. Train Control and Management Subsystems, Driver Displays, Ordinary Train Control Circuits, etc;
3. Good knowledge of railway operations from the perspective of the Train Operator and their interactions with Station Staff and Signallers;
4. Background working with ERA Standards (Subset 026 & Subset 076) and GE/RT 8075 would be a distinct advantage. It is expected that the candidate will also have an understanding of other relevant Railway Standards such as EN-50126, EN-50128 & EN-50129 and National Standards (Network Rail & London Underground);

Location: Derby, United Kingdom. Some remote working may be possible for the right candidates, although it is anticipated that majority of work will be performed on site.
Working Hours: 40 Hours per Week. Potential for overtime where needed to meet needs of the Delivery Programme.

Rate: Market Rates depending on experience.
