Job Title: Strategic Buyer
Location: Poole, Dorset
Salary: £40k to £45k DOE
Hours: Monday to Thursday 8.30am - 5pm Friday 8.30am - 4pm - with approx. 3 trips per annum to China

Our client has all of their product manufactured overseas. The role involves dealing with overseas manufacturing, getting the best deals from their manufacturing factory partners, including logistics such as warehousing and shipping costs. A proven track record in strategic negotiation within procurement is a requirement for this role.

Job Overview

Working within the Procurement Department, the Strategic Buyer will play a key role in: cost management, the enhancement of overseas factory performance and the development of core relationships to continuously improve total supply.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead complex procurement negotiations on cost, quality and delivery of product
* Identify, tender and award product ranges to lead the growth of business within the core supply base
* Establish and maintain an in-depth knowledge of product categories and product specific regulatory requirements
* Proactively investigate raw material trends and external factors which may influence costs or supply and develop strategies for optimum efficiency and cost enhancement
* Strategic reviews for total margin enhancement, stocking efficiencies and logistical benefit
* Assist in the management of factory performance and proactively develop new strategies for enhancement
* Identify requirements and source new factories to provide maximum range opportunity
* Communicate effectively and lead discussions across all levels and departments to ensure business and trading requirements are met in full
* Ensure compliance to social and ethical trading requirements

Experience and skills required


* Proven procurement and supply chain background within manufacturing
* Experience of manufacturing logistical costs such as Warehousing and Shipping
* Excellent negotiation skills
* Highly numerate, IT literal and analytical
* Good awareness and understanding of the total lifecycles of product
* Ability to problem solve and make key strategic decisions
* Strong communication skills


* CIPS membership
* Knowledge of the luminaire market and a basic technical awareness of product
* Contract awareness - the ability to understand, draft and negotiate procurement contracts
* Flexibility to travel to the Far East and other European countries
