We are currently recruiting for a Deputy Finance Manager for a leading organisation in Oxfordshire. Please note this is for a 6 month contract however, there is a strong possibility of the position being made permanent.

Job Purpose:

Produce accurate and timely financial accounts for the UK business. Maintain an appropriate level of internal control, and ensure that assets and liabilities are accurately accounted for.
Assist the Finance Manager in delivering a first class service, according to agreed Service Level Agreements, working standards, policies and procedures, and contribute to a continuous programme of improvement.
Deputise for the Finance Manager and lead, manage and develop a team of 2 people.

Key responsibilities:

Manage direct reports in accordance with policies and procedures.
Prepare financial accounts allocating costs and identifying exceptions so that accurate monthly accounts are prepared in line with the agreed timetable.
Prepare statutory accounts for UK subsidiary companies.
Prepare Group Reporting Packs for the UK business on a timely basis, ensuring inter-company balances are reconciled and agreed.
Review Balance Sheet Reconciliations prepared by team members, ensuring there are no
un-reconciled accounts, and inform the Finance Manager of any differences.
Act in partnership with staff in the business to ensure services provided by the Financial Accounts team support the business, and that both parties communicate effectively, and work cooperatively and with mutual respect, by meeting with divisional finance teams, and other key stakeholders, on a regular basis.
Identify areas for process improvement that will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of procedures, policies and systems.
Review proposed payments to vendors and authors, ensuring that payments are supported by authorised invoices or payment requests, are being made in the correct currency and by the most appropriate payment method.
Represent UK Finance on acquisitions.
Support divisional finance teams, providing a financial accounting service post acquisition.
Champion internal controls, identifying requirements and enforcing compliance. Proactively review systems and processes to identify internal control requirements. Respond to recommendations by the internal and external auditors, ensuring that any internal control weaknesses identified are rectified.
Respond to queries from Auditors, tax inspectors and other external authorities so that they receive a timely and accurate response which explains, clarifies and justifies accounting practices and reported results.


Qualified/finalist/QBE with commitment to Continuous Professional Development.
Proven management and leadership skills, either as a manager of direct reports, or through supervising staff.
Significant experience and demonstrated ability gained from working in a multi-divisional group with international branches / subsidiaries.
Understanding of internal controls, and commitment to compliance.
Ability to manage a complex workload with multiple stakeholders and deadlines.
Confident communicator with proven experience of negotiating, persuading and influencing at all levels.
Highly numerate with good Excel skills.
